I don’t think being a parent has anything to do with it. As we age we men get more comfortable with emotions. I’m in my mid 40’s and I have no kids but I have found myself getting choked up in a sad part of a movie I am watching that 10 or 20 years ago I would only felt a slight twinge of emotional empathy.
It may be true that as we age we men get more comfortable with emotions, but there’s no denying the sudden difference in reaction to things like this that a person (male or female) experiences after becoming a parent.
First of all, you could be nicer about this, and just say that everyone gets more emotional (it’s true), and you could just not comment in this if you’re going to create a hostile environment.
