Isn’t bail basically a deposit? Like, you get it back if the bail-ee doesn’t skip town? Should there even be bail if the charges were dropped already?

Good point. I guess Lucas didn’t find out until after he paid or something that apparently is logical?

Do you really think Lucas expects Ethan to show up to court or not commit another illegal act of some sort in the mean time? He’s not getting that money back.

Also, Conditional Release might be applicable here (?), but there are different laws depending on the state, and it could depend on what Ethan was charged with. But if you really want an explanation that covers the author’s lack of knowledge: Lucas was lying to Ethan?
