Had a bit of downtime recently with nothing but my Steamdeck, and decided to finally dig into Balatro; it definitely lived up to the hype. Regular poker kind of feels dull now in comparison.

Other guy must have had a really low straight, even with Gros Michel the 100×8 that a straight flush gets at lvl 1 wins that matchup most of the time.
if he had a 2 through 6 straight flush, that’s 960 chips. 2 pair of face cards w/ G.M. gets 1020 chips.
It’s possible, but just barely. The main issue is, if he just got that banana, it’s a Cavendish…
Cavendish is the one that only spawns after GM gets eaten.
I’m saying if you go to the store right now & buy a banana, it will be the Cavendish variety. GM’s aren’t available commercially; they basically are “Extinct.”

Gros Michel and Cavendish don’t differ because one is rotten. They are two different varieties of banana. Gros Michel are functionally extinct due to a disease, so bananas that you buy today are cavendish.
I had no clue about what this strip was about until I read the bottom of the strip and saw Balatro. I can tell you this, I tried it on my friend’s account for a few minutes and really didn’t care for it. I generally don’t play card games all that much and if I do, then something like Solitaire is enough for me.
That reminds me of the Bugs Bunny cartoon with the riverboat gambler. Bugs and the gambler are playing five-card stud poker (single deck).
Gambler: “Ah’ve got five aces. What y’all got, sucker?”
Bugs: “I’ve got SIX aces.”
(In case anyone doesn’t get it, the joke is that they’ve both descended into blatant cheating, and the only question is which of them is better at cheating)
Unpopular opinion: regular poker has always been really dull, same as most gambling games. Take away the money and the gambling addiction and nothing remains but a really dull game.
I think almost every gamer would agree with this.

Up till the Balatro reference in the notes/comments, I sorta thought this was some Fallout NV or maybe some 76 add on (I dont play 76 in a long while so dont know whats going on with it!) comic lol
