I’m really hyped about NMS VR. I own both the PC and PS4 version and I’m gonna play the shit out of this on PCVR with my friends as well as PSVR alone ^^
“Developer Hello Games says No Man’s Sky VR will support the PSVR, Rift, and Vive headsets, and VR players will be able to play alongside non-VR players (on the same platform).”
On the contrary, I can wear my glasses fine inside every headset I’ve worn, including the PSVR, Vive, Rift S, Pimax 5K+, and one of the Acer MR headsets
Shit man… I did not know this was a thing. I have to take my glasses off when I use my Rift, which means I can only play in short little bursts. I’ll have to look into this.
Wrong. I use my glasses when I use my Oculus Rift CV1 and it works perfectly. However you need THIN frames….not those dorky looking thick “OWL” frames.
Also what people below have mentioned….you can purchase lens inserts for ALL VR HMD.

Classic Ethan. Holy crap, that was funny.

It has VR and a Creative Mode – that’s all I needed to hear to give it a second chance.

I find it hilarious that the continual respawning doesn’t even register in Ethan’s brain, but playing an unplugged NMS causes him to question his entire existence.

Predictable punchline, but that doesn’t stop something from being funny 🙂
You know, I think I got that for free with my Oculus Rift a couple years ago. I dabbled with it, was pretty impressed and I think I said to myself “I need to hook up my flight stick and really get into this!” and I think my flight stick was broken and then I never really gave Elite Dangerous a good try at length.
Tim if you ever do get yourself a new flight stick, You should really give it a try again. It’s a pretty damn engaging game without VR, and from the stories i’ve heard from people with VR, jumping into a system with giant stars right in your face is something to behold.

I’ve been really wanting to try these VR headset games but I never have been able to. Are they that immersive or is it still a gimmick? Like on a scale of Virtual Boy to Tron how much am I missing out on?
A lot of it boils down to the software (some makes great use of the tech, some less so), but it really is an impressive experience. I was skeptical until the moment I first put on my Oculus. And while I’m not sure VR has had that one great game that just DEFINES playing in VR, the tech is definitely ready to be made use of.
Go see if there’s a VR arcade anywhere near you. There’s one about an hour and a half away from where I live; I spent a while there, switching back and forth between games. Good time. Immersive, to a point. The arcade had it set up so I was in a cubicle, and could walk around and interact with anything in that area, and when I approached a wall I could see the outline faintly. Shooting dinosaurs in Island 359 and dodging bullets in Superhot was downright amazing. It gets weird when you’re trying to physically interact with anything; I… Read more »

I realized he wasn’t playing No Man’s Sky when he said “blackness”, because those developers made made the space in that game more colourful than a rave party.
I know there’s nebula and all, but space should not be indistinguishable from a sky.

“Ah, Cheerios. Like a bowl of milk filled with tiny inner-tubes and people, whom I repeatedly drown with my spoon.” If Ethan can be entertained like a champ with breakfast cereal, I see it as nothing being beyond him to love the heck out wearing an inactive Oculus Rift headset. And wait until Lucas suddenly plugs it in! What fun might be had in those moments of cognitive cross-jump? What game might pleasure or horrify his senses, and might he actually like it anyway? As a veteran CAD reader who got his start on the Ethan-net and your comic in… Read more »
Okay. You win Tim. No Man’s Sky truly reaches its pinnacle when unplugged.
I mean… this is technically still a win for No Man’s Sky? Kinda? Still not gonna get it though…
K.
Good call.

VR is only for PC right now.
No.

Given his powers Ethan definitely has a unique perspective on how transient existence can be.
Well, at least it’s ONE way to keep him out of trouble.
kinda feel like this is saying the best way to play is unplugged lol
VR is unfair to people who need glasses………..
Not really, I wear glasses and the PSVR fits comfortably and works great.
On the contrary, I can wear my glasses fine inside every headset I’ve worn, including the PSVR, Vive, Rift S, Pimax 5K+, and one of the Acer MR headsets
You can get glasses inserts for the most common VR headsets. Just google vr lens lab, or widmo vr.

Kinda reminds me of the old Alone in the Dark one from many years ago!
I’ve never seen any post on Elite Dangerous. You stay away from that one Tim?
