“Link” wouldn’t even be a bad name for him, because it is also a technical term (links on the Internet, uplinks in communication). It also wouldn’t be the first time someone got his name because their parents liked a game. Robin Williams gave his daughter the name “Zelda”.
That wasn’t what I meant (especially after Ethan didn’t like “Link” as a name).
Normally you wouldn’t choose a name yourself (except you would switch gender later).
It was a view on our society where our parents choose our name. And their are parents that had chosen the name of a game Character. (with the Example of Robin Williams)
I see your point, and you are probably right. I just liked the idea that to a certain extent, Ethan actually is someone the robot looks at for guidance in some more social issues, so you could actually see him as a sort “parent” in a very limited way. Whether Ethan is actually a good role model, well….:)
Well, that exact technical definition is the original reason for the video game characters name in the first place. They were the players “link” to the video have world. So it’s pretty fitting in the reverse as well.
At least, from what I remember of a very old interview with the creator of the franchise.
I thought the name Link from the game came from an old idea for the original where you would travel back and forth from the past and future to find parts of the Triforce, Link was the name chosen because he would be the ‘link’ between timelines.
Granted it’s been…. since the original NES games came out that I’ve played them but, I don’t recall *any* time travel shenanigans until LTtP came out on the SNES.

Well, damn. I’m with Ethan, I was expecting him to play the long game.
I can kinda see the appeal of a badass non-human who uses advanced ‘tech’ to decimate his opponents for our boy Link there.
Perhaps it was. But once Ethan called him out on it, the better option was to guilt trip him for his cynicism. Now poor Ethan will never know whether he’s being played or not. Exquisite torture!
You know what? This “joke” is too long now. 16 pages and it is kind of boring, nothing is happening. Imagine buying comics where protagonists are in the same room and are talking about one thing through the whole comics.
Imagine complaining about a comic storyline you didn’t pay for and could simply ignore if you didn’t like it. Imagine the concept of no page limits or printing deadlines, and being able to explore a complex, multi-faceted concept like identity in as many pages as the author feels is necessary to convey the story authentically. Imagine, that a year from now, “sixteen pages” will take someone all of five minutes to read, and yet firmly establish a pivotal moment in the journey of one of these characters.
Yeah, a comic can average 24-32 pages. So far Tim has used 16 to help tell a story… It happens in comics where you might have a couple issues mostly in one building with no action. So far Tim is half way through 1 comic book. Avengers have had issues where is was them talking about what they should do with X situation or about X person. Not all comics are full of action when they have Character development happening.
I feel sorry for you. Your attention span is so short that you can’t bear reading something for more than a few pages without craving explosions and sword duels.
You think Tim is detailed? When Victor Hugo was writing, his writing appeared in newspapers that paid him by the page. So when the character walks along a dark path, every bush and tree on the side of that path are painstakingly detailed.
That’s Les Miserables for you, or Les Miz if you heard about that thing called “Theater”.
Still shorter and has more content than “the conclusion and more on the next exciting episode of Dragon Ball Z”.
I’m not knocking the comic nor Dragon Ball Z (love both). Just saying.

Adam Link. Ancient SF story from the writing couple Eando Binder. Robot causes accident, then reads Frankenstein. Commits robot suicide to atone.
It concerns me that his failsafe is still on and Ethan doesn’t know. I feel like all this progress is about to be lost as Ethan tries to invite Gizmo somewhere but the failsafe fails and Gizmo thinks it was a trap. Angry and pain can turn even a good heart cold.
I don’t really see Ethan inviting X01 anywhere at the moment. Where are they going to go? Out into the store, where customers could be right there? Not a good idea.
Besides, X01 had their chance to leave on their own. They stayed out of some kind of fear of the world. I imagine they’d find an excuse to stay in the room rather than join Ethan.
Maybe I’m putting too many red strings on my connection board, but:
X-01 – Master given name. Take “X”.
Ethan – The first person to give him a chance; a joke suggestion, but also important. “E”.
Link – Self-chosen name based off of something he likes. Take “K” sound, (or KE).
Combine a bit of each, land on Xeke. Is this anything?
We have Paris? Any chance we can give it back? Maybe in trade?

Mental slaughter: 100% less mess and equally satisfying. ‘Gizmo’s revenge. Or bucket list on ways to troll Ethan. Could go either way.

Hm, though, again with the AI angle “Link” has a nice meaning to it.
Not Link from Zelda Link but like a Link-Between-Man-And-Machine Link

I agree! Like link one person or thing to another, you claim that there is a relationship or connection between them. link wouldn’t even be a bad name for him.
and now Ethan knows how Lucas feels from time to time.
his face sums up everything, just missing the eye twitch
Wait a second, wasn’t Link or Linc the name of the psychotic AI from Beneath a Steel Sky?
That was LINC, yeah.
That one was LINC.
“Link” wouldn’t even be a bad name for him, because it is also a technical term (links on the Internet, uplinks in communication). It also wouldn’t be the first time someone got his name because their parents liked a game. Robin Williams gave his daughter the name “Zelda”.
I lovethat you just established Ethan as their “parent”. 😀
Well, he was, in the previous universe 😀

zelda was a name before the game, the game is called zelda because of Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s wife.
Zelda was, sure, but Robin William’s daughter’s name came from the game.

Boruto’s dad has his own show!
wow!

Tim with an epic mic drop right there
Yeah, a comic can average 24-32 pages. So far Tim has used 16 to help tell a story… It happens in comics where you might have a couple issues mostly in one building with no action. Well, that got a reaction.
I feel sorry for you. Your attention span is so short that you can’t bear reading something for more than a few pages without craving explosions and sword duels.

But hey, they didn’t have Michael Bay back then.
Bye Felicia.

He is an android, so maybe Data Link?
Data is such a good name for an android. Well done.
I would also have accepted “Lore” or “B4”
Erm, which smash link? BotW link? Toon link? Young link?
And whose fault do you think that is?
I’d say he’s pretty perceptive there, me thinks.
Maybe he’s an oblivious little sack of ‘not meat’
It concerns me that his failsafe is still on and Ethan doesn’t know. I feel like all this progress is about to be lost as Ethan tries to invite Gizmo somewhere but the failsafe fails and Gizmo thinks it was a trap. Angry and pain can turn even a good heart cold.

Yup, Chekov’s gun says this is a mortal lock.

It’s trying too hard to get back to Zeke, if I’m honest.
He may never be Zeke again, but we’ll always have Paris.
We have Paris? Any chance we can give it back? Maybe in trade?
