This makes me think of the line from the gen 4 pokemon anime where the main girl Dawn would say “No need to worry.” And her mom would always say, “That’s when I worry the most.”

in that case, the troll is ethans “joker” and would have proven his point and won the argument. And ethan would be no better than that slaughtering dude from last time
There’s something called degrees. Ethan wouldn’t be just as bad as Bloodbath, for a single murder. Specially if The Troll’s the victim.
It IS a slippery slope after that, but it really doesn’t sound like routinely killing people could ever become Ethan’s MO.
