… … imagine the street cred Analog & D-pad will get if they manage to win against the Troll.

“We dealt with a criminal who’ve gotten one-up over Captain Prime.”

The problem with an internet troll is you cant win. You think you’ve won, then they take that, flip it on its head and make you the bad guy and them the victim. ‘*You* did this to me. *I* am the victim’ (never mind it was my actions that caused this) For example: You banned me off the site, I cant post about my favourite fandom (Never mind all I was posting was stuff making everyone upset) Now I am going to show a suspicious ammount of skill in DDoS attacks (almost like this was my plan all along and… Read more »

The narcissist’s prayer also applies to trolls:

That didn’t happen.

And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.

And if it was, that’s not a big deal.

And if it is, that’s not my fault.

And if it was, I didn’t mean it.

And if I did, you deserved it.

You can’t win you say…

…sooooo…

…what if the troll blocked you?

I counted that as a win, and it wasn’t like I was trying ? or maybe I’m really trying, not sure.

But I counted the result as a win.

This is why the Worm series by Wildbow has a “Kill List” Villians (or Heroes) that out secret identities, or use lots of deadly force, etc end up in the Birdcage or get outright shot by a laser from space.

I’ve found one way to win against an internet troll. First off you have to call them out and let them know you know they’re trying to troll you. Next you tell them that the reason they’re trolling and trying to ‘get’ people is because their lives are empty and meaningless and deep down they’re unhappy. Finally, make it clear that any responses to them have taken a minimum amount of time, effort, and thought which is all a sad pathetic troll like them deserves. Trolls really hate it.

Must confess that when read “drove them” thought they would be more than one, but then I told me “it is neutral, you moron”.
I’m having difficulties with the inclusive language but I’m working in it.

Could also be that she didn’t know so just used “they” as a catch all. Works since she didn’t seem sure of the hero’s name.

Which is what it’s always been for, it’s not like using “they” when you don’t know the gender is a new thing.

It isn’t a “new rule”, it’s been there all along – apparently first showing up all the way back in 1375, like the royal “We”

He/She and the singular “They/Them” are interchangeable. It’s a convenience, no vengeful penguins are going to swoop down and smack you with a ruler for it.

One of the examples I’ve often seen used;
There’s a wallet on ground -> “somebody lost their wallet”
As an example how people use singular they without even realizing/noticing.

I am a fan of ’em for such cases, especially when spoken. It is natural for all generations because it is a slurring of her/him and is improved communication because it sounds as expected (think lipsom ipsom for visual) and thus dies not have a “what what” processing stutter, but also does not convey incorrect information.

Don’t call yourself a moron, I agree it’s confusing at times. Heck, when Ethan referred to Zeke as “they” when speaking of the robot’s actions in the past tense(EG ‘They did this’), I automatically substituted in “he” because my brain could wrap around it easier. “They” made it sound to me as if Ethan was speaking of some kind of collective of multiple minds in Zeke’s head.

Em? Ee?
For Zeke, though, that one very particular case I think it was cannon that Zeke is plural. Some humans are too and will use “we” and identify specifically as plural.

In English, we’ve used they/them/their as singular long before the idea of inclusive pronouns. Get over yourself.

That isn’t anything new. The singular they has been used for centuries. It’s completely normal grammar.

Somewhat. Native speakers lwarn intuition and not rules, so while they(singular) is technically correct it causes many people’s brains to stutter. Effective communication is not about rules and technically correct but about being understood immediately and without explanation. The fact that people do stutter (processing) over “they” singular in some examples demonstrates how it is *less* effective communication because that processing stutter means the information after is missed while the person catches up. This to me demonstrates that while some examples of singular “they” have been normalized, many instances are not. While brute force forcing it and public shaming while… Read more »

First of all, if batman is concerned about the law being upheld, he needs to hang up the cape and turn himself in. second, if a crazy guy kills a bunch of people, send him to the nuthouse. if he escapes and kills a bunch more people, capture him and send him back to the nuthouse. if he escapes AGAIN and kills a bunch more people… its time to put his ass down, because its become crystal clear the nuthouse can’t keep him contained, and at that point the lives of innocent people are more important than the life of… Read more »

Some people refuse to reform, and we shut down all the asylums decades ago. And now thanks to soft on crime (and growing increasingly softER) policies, even murderers and R—let’s get out on light sentencing because ‘prisons are too harsh’. What exactly do you propose… Give them a bouquet, a hug, and ask them nicely not to be bad anymore? :/

‘It doesn’t work’… Well I’m pretty sure the deceased isn’t going to rise up and harm more people. xD
And yeah, it doesn’t act to deter people, when it’s rarely ever enforeced, and nearly abolished in most states.

And there’s nothing ‘racist’ about it. Unless *you* think a particular group of people is more violent, and willing to comit crimes and murder, than other groups. Then that’s *you* being racist.

There are a LOT of cases of death row people exonerated with dna evidence, and under review the case against them was a disaster and miscarriage of justice. To declare no one has the right to take a live, also means we cannot have executioners. If prisons were re-evaluated for function, they could hold people who would otherwise be executed and keep them from harming the general public. Currently they serve more as training grounds.

Oh, logan, just tell me you’re a racist conservative without telling. I wonder how ppl can deny the systemic racism in the usa, including in the police and justice system.
Also, no, it does not work, just look at the murder rate in the usa compared to the rest of the world. Jk I know you wont because you wouldnt love the result.
I hope you enjoy being in the same group than iran, china and north korea, while all europe abolished it long ago.

People like leduk never have any answers to that particular question. They think everything can be solved with hugs and singing kumbaya in a circle and have no solution whatsoever for people who would happily open fire on that circle for fun or because they believed the people in the circle were some form of the ‘other’ that they despise.

Of course, we have to degrade people when they disagree with us, and provide evidence that their feelings are correct, instead of directly answering a question. While we can easily look at other countries and see the death penalty isn’t necessary, we can also ask ourselves… Are people who have killed others still worthy of compassion? For any Christian, that answer should be obvious (I point that out, because for some reason, a large number of the people I know who support the death penalty are, in fact, Christian). For anyone else, ask yourself, have I ever done something that… Read more »

I mostly agree, but the worst crime is preventing someone from going to heaven. Mathew 18:6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
