Let The Headwear Decide

July 26, 2019 by Tim

This weekend is for putting as much Fire Emblem into my eyeballs as I possibly can.

I used this method to overcome the dreaded “Where do we eat today?” conundrum. You get enough of my family together, and we’ll spend two hours researching lunch options and then be so hungry we have to feed the kids snacks while we weigh options. Not deciding is the worst possible outcome, and it’s the one you’re using the entire duration of deliberation. Nobody is going to remember which restaurant it was in a year, so spending as much time deciding as you would on buying a house is insanity. When you don’t have, and arguably cannot obtain all the… Read more »

Given that my favorite Lord has always been Hector, I have to go with Edelgard, because axes.

Just out of idle curiosity, how does Ethan feel about FFXIV?

No mechanics, no, but it’s redolent with the JRPG aesthetic. I’m not a big fan of JRPGs either, but I love the franchise, incidentally.

I was actually going to make this argument, too.

But, Fire Emblem really only LOOKS like a JRPG. It’s got lots of characters and HP and traditional stats and dialogue and Anime-style characters. But it PLAYS completely different.

While Ethan hates JRPGs, we don’t really know what about them he hates. If it’s just the gameplay and pacing and often boring battles and the fact that you can ‘get good’ by grinding forever while watching TV, then he’d be fine with Fire Emblem.

Maybe he hates them because he keeps getting stuck in role play decisions like this. Or maybe hes trying to like them because he thinks it will bring Emily back… and now I’m sad.

Love how quickly Ethan has rebounded, from wanting to go back to Emily to saying that he thinks video game characters are hot.

It certainly has turned off my willingness to say it out loud.

Plus, I mean it’s Ethan. We have established how quickly his brain changes channels.

Black Eagles for life.

Easy enough to recruit the best few characters from the other houses, Marianne, Lysithea, and Mercedes, since they all like Magic.

I found it very intriguing you made a Harry Potter reference to Three Houses, when I just read an article talking about how this game is the best Harry Potter game ever….it’s just not a Harry Potter game.

I made a very firm decision with FE:3H. I was going to play the house I’d have the most regret not picking. All the houses are good, but I knew that I enjoyed the characters from the Black Eagles more from the tiny previews we got on them, and I’d regret having to kill them the most, even if they were still practically strangers. If I still have the will to play a second and third time, I can do something to address that issue.
