technically no human can fly without equipment, a vehicle or some sort of ballistic launch…. but nobody told the yogic fliers it isn’t possible…

Any one can fly it’s the landing you have to worry about.

All one has to do in order to fly is to throw themselves at the ground and miss

Couldn’t help but to post this here.

“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has a large section on the subject of flying, which details exactly how to master the art of flying.
According to the Guide, the main thing that flying requires is the ability to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

Funnily enough, that’s pretty much orbiting in a nutshell.

Funny you should mention it; back in my hitchhiking days, I had a short but fun stint working at a private club in Bethselamin. All they had me do was jump out of some conveniently placed bushes and push people off a cliff while mentioning that I had liked Castlevania 64 more than Symphony of the Night.

Got fired because way too many people flew back to argue. They replaced me with some zarking idiot with two heads and three arms.

I mean, if you’re going to go that far, birds can’t fly either. They just cling really hard to their feathers while riding thermals.

If someone has the ability to pick themselves up off the ground under their own power and move wherever they want, without using any external tools, I’d say that’s flight.

Hey so I dunno where you’re going with this, but as a disabled person, this hurt. I have to do so much just to function in this world and I feel broken enough without Zeke reminding me of it. I know you’ve got Scott to help counter and you’ve shown that Ethan has more emotional intelligence than in 1.0, so I’m trusting you’ll take this somewhere good.

I’m sorry you have issues but I think you know Tim isn’t trying to offend anyone here. Don’t make him alter his story. Tim isn’t saying those thoughts are ok or good. It’s well defined that Zeke is an ass.

I appreciate that you read this and took it as it was intended. I fully support your decision – your characters should be allowed to be who they are, all assholery included. I’ve been reading since 2003 and I look forward to seeing where this goes ^_^

Thank you for understanding points made and for responding in this kind, measured fashion. I’m also a disabled long-time reader and the comic above hit home quietly in a way it might not for others even though I’d already understood the intended takeaway – “we are formed in different ways” from an abled perspective, of different strengths and weaknesses, something I try to still see value in. But there’s absolutely another shade underneath that for those of us who are simply unable to do things society considers normative or who exist daily in pain and ill health. I never considered… Read more »

Zeke isn’t a mouthpiece for some opinions the author has. He’s the robot equivalent of a toddler that’s still learning manners and why he should be nice to others. That’s his character arc and Tim’s been pretty consistent about chugging him along on it. As a disabled person myself, if it matters, I take no issue with this because the author isn’t mocking disabled people. He’s highlighting that Zeke is a juvenile who’s just discovering things about the world that most of us already know. And highlighting that Zeke still looks for robot superiority wherever he can find it, and… Read more »

I’m unsure why you felt the need to post this in specific relation to yourself. As a disabled person myself (and I won’t go into specifics, because this does not belong into a public comment section), I found Zekes point of view absolutely acceptable, even though he is wrong (a fact that Scott could point out later, btw). Not two things in this world are identical. Even electrical components, the stuff Zeke is made of, have different error margins that continue to amass (Error analysis) due to differences in production and small discrepancies in material etc. Due to this fact,… Read more »

I don’t quite agree. People have a right to feel whatever they like. If Ducky was offended or upset, that’s a legitimate emotion they have. It’s not up to any of us to judge that. At the same time, Tim has every right to not change his work done or to be done in future. It isn’t Tim’s responsibility to fix how someone else feels. Having said both of those things, empathy and sympathy lets us at least identify when someone has a bad response to something in a way the original author never intended. Although Tim could choose to… Read more »

As far as I can tell, the simplest, most respectful and most reasonable way to handle this, is what already happened between Ducky and Tim.

Each expressed themselves, while admitting their positions are not some sort of universal absolute. And respecting the other, in recognising the same rights and limits they have.

Or if he is conscious of the fact he is so driven to state how inferior humans are to him? I’d call him insecure. The people who most often make statements about how great they are tend to be the least secure folks.

Zeke doesn’t look like they’ve checked anything on psychology yet. For someone so allegedly interested in exploiting and defeating humanity, they haven’t been doing much research on the matter. Once they realise emotions and the like are the true rulers in our species, they should become quite interested in psychology. And then, if they remain as self-aware as they’ve been thus far, it should slowly dawn on them that their psychological make-up has way more in common with humanity’s than they’ve recognised thus far. In any case, whatever they do will surely be still heavily colored by their narcissism. So,… Read more »

Wait till he meets the “upgrade” robots the Master is making to replace him. Might change his opinions to meet the next generation of robot and feel “obsolescence.”

Zeke would probably take the same attitude toward them that HK-47 had toward the HK-50s in KOTOR 2: these are cheap, inferior knockoffs.

I’m calling it now.

In eight years, when Tim finally reaches the point of the story where Ethan and Lilah finally hook up, Ethan’s going to completely by accident fire the wrist-mounted grapple launcher.

And Zeke, somewhere, will say, “Definitely was a sex thing.”

November 5, 2020. That’s the last time there was a storyline that involved them being superheroes (yes, I know there was a one-shot in September, but it wasn’t connected to a story).

So fast forward to today:

Me, a CAD fan since watermelon was the third character: “Why on earth would Ethan need a wrist mounted grapple launcher?? He owns a video game store…”

ZK laughs as if all machines are made equal. Just yesterday I had to return some RAM sticks because the computer wouldn’t boot with them installed, but the other identical pair works fine.

eh. Just wait till they see an android with better hardware than them. Which considering their servo based joints that apparently lack good ingress protection, isn’t far-fetched.

A reality of technology Z.K. probably hasn’t encountered yet. There is always room for improvement and before you know it the Apex creation of today, is the obsolete relic of tomorrow…
