Mindstate, p9

February 5, 2021 by Tim

The Starcaster Chronicles Kickstarter Exclusive Pin Set, add-on, $9- The set includes two 1.25″ pins; a soft enamel color pin featuring everyone’s favorite acid-covered snuggle buddy  and a silver die-struck Federation logo pin, like an Officer might wear on their lapel. Now available as an add-on to your Kickstarter pledge!

Also, while my focus is on getting these new books printed, I’ve had a fair number of people message me about the possibility of purchasing the original CAD 1.0 book set. The Omnibus set has been sold out for a few years now, and while I feel like we may have sold enough of them to make the chance of sufficient reprint demand unlikely, I am willing to at least explore the option of a small, softcover reprint of those books for anyone that missed out.

Part of me feels nuts for even considering it while still in the middle of this campaign, however if (big if) there were enough interest in a reprint, it would actually be more convenient to tackle it with a short campaign immediately following this, and then just managing the shipping of everything all at once.

The first step is figuring out if there are even enough people out there that still want a physical set of the CAD 1.0 Omnibus to make a reprint campaign possible. The set would be $65 for three softcover books (no slipcase) plus shipping. If this is something you want, you can let me know by sounding off on this poll.

Yeah. I was hoping Tim chose purple for that reason and it wasn’t just a random color choice. It’s a nice touch.

I was thinking the same but….Why blue? I mean, the old colour was green.

We exist in a new reality. What this opens the door to is emotive color shifts, giving us more insight into the character as he lacks many sapient features in his face.

Tbf, the old colour was green because he was built out of an Xbox. Even the last couple xboxes have had very little colour, let alone green.
Plus, dunno how interested Tim is at having Zeke be the same as before, anyway.

“Gizmo” is becoming more like an antihero instead of just a homicidal Xbot.

Ah yes, the good old ‘violent video games poison our killer robots’ debate.

Honestly next level airheaded, but at the same time, they let him on the internet. The ship of ‘keeping him away from things that might be bad for him/us’ has sailed.

Kinda awesome how you draw the robot so expressive even though he has so few facial features =)

Some of the “accidental deaths” are really creative

For some reason, the last panel made me think of Harvester. Yeah, I’m old, I know. I wonder what Zeke would make of it.

I think he’s not called Zeke in this continuity, but, really sorry, Zeke totally stuck with me. 🙂

“Gizmo” in this new reality, at least so far. I’ve been calling him Zizmo in my head.

“Gizmo”? Good grief, now I AM feeling old, that immediately conjures up the old “Superbook Bible Stories” robot! https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSVIechLx-d8NDj8UB82ytzi61_6jn9V–1AA&usqp=CAU

Also, in two comments I managed to bring up Harvester and the Superbook Bible. Here, Zizmo, humans are even stranger than you bargained for!

(plus there’s the gremlin. Heh. Sorry, Tim, there’s too many Gizmos in the world but Zeke is unique, and I have fond memories of him from the old continuity – you did too good a job on him! 😀 )

I think that “Gizmo” was meant to be a throwaway joke; a tiny bit of Ethan craziness on a one-shot comic. When Tim refers to him, I believe he calls him either “the X1” or “the robot.”

Seeing as X1 doesn’t call himself Gizmo, and presumably doesn’t know that Ethan called him that behind his back, it’s not a name I personally call him.

Aaawww, I remember that anime, was aired in Latin America as “El Super Libro” in the late 80s-early 90s. We know that robot as “Tuercas” 🙂

He’ll always be Zeke to me. I love the character development we’re seeing.

In my current D&D campaign I’m playing a warforged rogue that is scary close to this Zeke in personality. Thanks for giving me material, Tim. 😉

I don’t recall if they have asked for his name. Gizmo is just what Ethan decided to call him, without zeke’s knowledge

I wounder how our robot friend would react to playing the Mass Effect franchise. Not just because of the Geth, but to see how he;d react to romance options.

Ah yes, the robot is making a friend who genuinely thinks about him, unfortunate right now its very onesided.
