There are some unconfirmed news from his editor that he hasn’t given them an update on the Doors of Stone since 2014, so… Yeah.
I love the Kingkiller Chronicle, but at this point I’ve pretty much lost hope in it ever being finished, specially after Rothfuss let a deal die of his series being adapted in several media, which included Lin-Manuel Miranda offering himself to write the music.
Best we will get I think are short novellas like the last two published (the second being a rewriting of a short story).
I agree GOT has the highest likelihood, but there’s many book adaptions you could apply this to without being wrong.
Dune & Ender(s Game) series, Hitchhikers Guide are just a few others that were distorted for the film/TV adaptions.
Not sure how applicable those really are. Bad adaptations are indeed depressingly common, but usually they’re just bad. To fit this comic they first need to start as an excellent product, only to turn into the burning cliff wreck later.
(And for them to truly apply there should also be long-awaited unfinished books still incoming.)
Yes, the main difference is the “long-awaited unfinished books” part.
Bad adaptation is also a subjective matter and I am pretty sure, for every adaptation, you will find fans who are adamant about the fact that “It could not have been worse !”
I’d also consider the sudden shift in quality to be a pretty distinguishing factor.
(Almost) every adaptation has people who like or dislike it, but usually they do at least have a consistent level of quality throughout. Fans saying ‘this is great’ or ‘this sucks’ about any adaptation isn’t anything special, but it is pretty rare for the same fans to say both about the same product.
He very much has told himself he does want this. Seemed to be the main plot in at least two whole pages. He wants it, at least so long they aren’t superheroing.

There are a lot of books like that sadly, but I assume he’s referring to Game of Thrones. Yeah, we’re never getting the last book.
He took the white ships from Cirdan’s Havens. His writing days are done, here Middle Earth.

After killing off so many of the interesting characters, GRRM realizes that he doesn’t have the people in place to advance the plot.

I’m so glad that happened to the lambo, tho. I was getting resigned to nobody ever shutting up about that garbage, but then they fucked up the landing so hard the impossible happened.
Nothing to do with edge, but maybe if you were part of the zeitgeist you wouldn’t notice how everything was affected. How every writer that wasn’t all too committed to their story started killing off their characters because it was the new profitable thing, how every show and movie started getting grittier to cater to that audience; hell, even adult sites were flooded with brother and sister stuff. If you were the target audience then it probably felt great how everything was suddenly catering to you, but if you weren’t? It was suffocating, and it didn’t feel like it was… Read more »
perfect examples of this, Riverdale and Sabrina. I agree with Rex, that just because they didn’t like the show doesn’t mean it is edgy because GOT really did affect EVERYTHING. Just like Hunger games affected EVERY YA book since, and has ruined the genre, even if you liked or didn’t like Hunger Games. The only point I would add is the problem that it still has for modern fantasy adaptions. Every single one will always be compared to GOT and be found wanting, because they AREN’T GOT. They are Rings of Power. They are WoT. This is why I loved… Read more »
When the only listed reason for not liking something is because everyone else seems to be enjoying it and are talking about it, I feel it does come off as “edgy”. However, after reading both your responses I get what you’re saying and can relate to it at times. There’s more than enough media out there to avoid the things we don’t like, but it’s still annoying when IP’s we’d be excited for get tweaked to fit what’s trendy. But I blame that more on crappy script writers thinking they can tell a better story than the source material did.… Read more »
Although I hate it if everything becomes a recognisable trend, like after ‘Man of steel’ suddenly no one was allowed to die during superheroing or it was the main plot point. However, the change in trends is good. In general I am unhappy about series, movies or other. Plot armour so thick it really suck the joy out of it. Plots in general that are only fueled by itself. Over the top or other…. there is too much to not like. Here was a show that started close to it’s source material. It was unpredictable, as you didn’t know who… Read more »

I know it is Game of Thrones, but I couldn’t help but have flashbacks to Wheel of Time. I know the show was made after the books were finished and he died, but the waiting for the next book rang so goddam true for me with that series.
Though truth be told, I never actually finished that one.
The last three were written by Brandon Sanderson after Robert Jordan died. Sanderson is phenomenal, but yeah, it’s a lot of books to get through before you get there.

Honestly, at this point, if the next book is ever actually released, I doubt I’ll be reading it. I just can’t care about it anymore. What am I going to do, read book 6 and then wonder if I’m gonna spend another decade or more waiting for the finale? And god forbid if it’s decided that the book count needs to be increased again. Your tweet way back when is actually how I learned the series was getting adapted, and I was beyond excited, but I made the decision that I was going to wait to watch the show until… Read more »
Maybe it is much less. Isn’t he writing the whole thing ‘as one’? Writing the plots of the next books as well as they are intertwined, many playing out at the same time.
Might be only 9 years for the next book.

I 100% agree with Lucas here and I’d even go farther and say that show didn’t even start good in the first. Every time the showrunners took their own liberties and tried to be creative it fell flat 90% of the time. So skip the show, read the books and if they never finish then so be it.

I love that Lucas retained his passion for GoT in this continuity. I remember re-reading the trading card arc in the original series after the show was released and thinking “this didn’t age well,” ha!

“I’ve never been a fast writer, and I’ve never been good with deadlines.” – certain writer
Reminds me of one of my favorite authors.
“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
42 🙂
Eion Colfer needs to be nailed to a door for what he did with his unasked for addition to that trilogy in five parts
A song of Ice and Fire
yea but what’s the book called?
The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring
Book 7, emphasis on Dream
P2 sounds like 10% of the Big Lebowski if you replace the Lambo with a greenish, rust-colored Gran Torino.
Damn you, George R. R. Martin!
Game of Thrones?
probably.
although that flat earth belief also stands for kingkiller chronicles
Oh yeah.
“I can neither confirm nor deny anything regarding this matter” ^^
Well, a Lambo used as toilet is quite some kind of throne 😉
A song of Ice and Fire? 😉
If it’s got feathers, a beak, waddles, swims, and quacks like a duck….
Then it’s a duck, and not Game of Thrones, duh.
…then you’ve got a goose on your hands.
He didn’t say it had the burning rage of a thousand suns.
Game Of Thrones
Which is just the title of the first book. Even I know the proper series name and I never read the books.
But it’s also the proper series name for the show, so it’s perfectly applicable.
Same with the Kingkiller Chronicle, hello Mr. Rothfuss, are you still alive?
I wonder if I’ll meet the doors of stone before it comes out at this point…

It’s GOT and ASOIAF for sure. Lucas 1.0 was obsessed, and I’m positive that is one of the things that would have carried over entirely.Seems like is possible they are holding hands…Lucas, still telling yourself you don’t want this?
He very much has told himself he does want this. Seemed to be the main plot in at least two whole pages. He wants it, at least so long they aren’t superheroing.

Unless I grew so tired of waiting for it that I didn’t notice its release, then he’s still (pretending to) write the second to last.
George R.R. Martin

totally isnt a rewrite of the ending cause dear lord the preview didnt go over well
Am I the only one that reads Ben with Tom Selleck’s voice?
He’s not wrong. After 70 years I’m starting to wonder if Tolkein is ever going to write that fourth Lord of the Rings novel.
