Yeah, I’m getting that “the stage is set for the final test” vibe as well. Ethan will enter the “full overconfidence” mode and we’ll be there to witness the tense buildup up to the very point of a full respawn. Either that or a drawn out period of getting injured and being frightened to go out anywhere again.
Luckily, April 1st is a long time away, so there shoudn’t be any “oh, he did not respawn” troll-type comics anytime soon. 😉
I begs the question: why are we giving those ideas at all? 😀
I feel it is WILD that right after this comic, we went to normal stuff (wrong about Players) which gives us a STRONG chance to come back with Ethan being shot on April 1st and dying!

Again, step by step. Next a bottle, next a missile…
Just noticed that Lucas and Ethan histories are not in the same time line. Lucas is in later afternoon and Ethan. In early night…
P19-23, Lucas was on the open shoreline as the sun is setting, Ethan was in the middle of the city in an alleyway. Cities start to get dark when the sun is that low on the horizon, because all of the tall buildings block the light. 🙂
Although the asterisk was because I was going to pre-emptively get in front of this topic (100% of A+D villains have been male, as far as I know, unless you count Z.K. in murder-bot mode) and then apparently I deleted it.

This is a hell of a throw, judging by the crowbar’s orbit. Only the momentum should knock him down. Either the helmet is very good, or Ethan is just very strong

Everyone is worried about Ben dying, wouldn’t it be a great plot twist for Ethan to have actually lost his powers and get killed, then Ben teams up with Lucas as his replacement?
It’d certainly be a plot twist, and probably a great one for a big superhero franchise, but for this webcomic…? I don’t know if I’d have the heart to keep reading myself if it became clear he wasn’t coming back. Ethan’s always been the main character for me..
Next chapter: Tim introduces The Writer, a sometimes villain, sometimes helping the Heroes, trying to kill whomever they feel whose death would create the most dramatic story arc.
oh, I have no idea if that concept exists already (it probably does^^) but the idea of a “villain” whose whole gimmick is setting up “good story” material, which would make him self defeating most of the time similar to The Riddler because usually, these stories would have the heroes come out on top is quite intriguing.
Not quite in a superhero story (though D&D is still about heroes etc.), but in “Order of the Stick” D&D webcomic there was Tarquin, a story tropes obsessed villain, insisting on the events going how he things is the good story should, considering himself a Big Bad of it (he wasn’t), and throwing a fit if the events didn’t match his preferred narrative.
Day one, scribbling in my notebook, designing the appearance of the characters, I based Ethan and Lucas off myself and my best friend (body type, hairstyles, what we were wearing that day). That’s the extent of it.
To say, 22 years, later that “Ethan is me” just couldn’t be further from the truth.
@Tim on that note, Ethan had died on the first version of the story.
Why did you reboot with the same characters in a new story instead of a new story with new characters?
It never crossed my mind to ask that question, but your comment made me think about it.
Because I loved these characters. I had just started to feel stifled by earlier decision made with them, and felt I can do a better job at making them more compelling if I were given a clean slate.
I didn’t need to reinvent my wheel, just make it work better.
If i may, Tim, Ethan and Lucas were amazing characters in several different levels. Letting them disappear would be sad and i am glad they were recreated on a more modern and “adultesque” setting. They had a very slapstick, kid-comic based personalities and stories and now they live adult obstacles, feelings, experiences and dilemmas, which is also amazing. But i don’t think one should exclude the other. Old Ethan and Lucas could coexist as separate stories with neo Ethan and Lucas. I really love both versions and i wouldn’t mind that those universes crossed themselves a few times (of course,… Read more »

honestly, with all the ways ethan has died, he has probably built up quite a tolerance to pain in general. with some adrenalin pumping he would probably take a bullet center mass and keep going fairly comfortably… for a minute or two.

Okay but that was a pretty impressive throw. Crowbars aren’t particularly aerodynamic, but he really nailed him right in the dome.
Always did love the design of stick grenades. I know at one point certain grenades were designed to be of similar size/weight to a baseball and were intended to be thrown as such, but the flinging throw of a stick grenade always worked better for me.*
*I say having never thrown an actual grenade, but having thrown plenty of playground appropriate proxies.

Can you imagine if the troll made him even more Super.
Maybe too super …
Maybe enough to make him a vi…. Nah… Nah…
How ironic would it be for Ethan to finally die and realize he respawns, from a random arrow?

Imagine him running into Deathblood. I wonder if Deathblood would recognize him.
It would probably be better if he did, because then he would think that shooting Ethan is a pointless waste of ammo.

I think for a twist it’d be interesting if Ben was a shapeshifting villain and the real “Ben” was a career criminal and not the cop he claims to be lol ..
But yeah… no idea where this is going now as all my assumptions were false.. But hey! FREE CROWBAR!!! 😀

Build up an immunity to missiles by starting with smaller slow moving ones.
“I. AM. INVINCIBLE!!!”

So what I’m hearing is there is about to be a swap to the Players, then return on April 1st for the death reveal.
I feel it is WILD that right after this comic, we went to normal stuff (wrong about Players) which gives us a STRONG chance to come back with Ethan being shot on April 1st and dying!

The city is just really big and they are in different timezones.
P19-23, Lucas was on the open shoreline as the sun is setting, Ethan was in the middle of the city in an alleyway. Cities start to get dark when the sun is that low on the horizon, because all of the tall buildings block the light. 🙂
Thats my least favorite time to drive in a part with less light. The sky still has some light but on the ground it’s dark as hell…
Still waiting for the Dodgeball references.
Maybe I should see that movie sometime …
Sweet, free crowbar!
That’d certainly make Gordon Freeman happy!
Now an hour arranging the inventory
Only an hour? Lightweight. 😉
With the unlimited inventory hack I had for Fallout 4 I could waste an hour, easily! Heh.
the zombies dont stand a chance now.
Good arm. I can’t imagine it’s easy to throw a crowbar that distance.
Call of Duty rules. Or Hitman!
Homing crowbars!
That’s what I was thinking! Just, *boom headshot* with a crowbar from like, 10-15 feet. I feel like we should probably worry about this guy.
We must destroy this new technology at once, lest the Xen discover and claim if for themselves, which would surely doom humankind.
Ethan, he’s* very slowly getting away!
Is the star because you’re not certain they are male? They is a perfectly good alternative! Easy to use and avoids semantic pitfalls.
English is not my first language but I find the use of they are for a single person is very confusing.
I mean, there’s lots of correct things that can be confusing, but you’ll figure it out eventually
Same for me, but I got used to it.
“Did that guy kiss a celebrity yesterday?”
“They did not.”
English is not my first language either but I find it’s absolutely not confusing.
Yeah I was fairly confident but not 100% sure.
Although the asterisk was because I was going to pre-emptively get in front of this topic (100% of A+D villains have been male, as far as I know, unless you count Z.K. in murder-bot mode) and then apparently I deleted it.

Lol Ethan is Tim, he obviously wouldn’t kill himself off
Ethan is definitely not me, and there are no characters I wouldn’t kill if I thought it was in service to the best possible story.

Character Assassins from Magellan
Elan’s dad in Order of the Stick?
Like the guy in the last bit of ‘Undead/Unluck’ anime, but evil.
And talking to a “camera”, Deadpool-style? 😉
Jesus, what a great idea for a character. Metaphysical or reality bending powers.
that ethan, ok, but the first ethan?
My bad, I thought I remembered you saying that, back in the beginning. Don’t mind me lol

They aren’t very air catching either and they are heavy. The old German hand grenades were like that, too.
