Fly free Ethan, the truth shall set you free

Pretty sure putting the wrong cheese on someone’s bagel is attempted poisoning. What if Ethan had peanut allergies and the employee used peanut butter? What if the employee knew about the allergy because of FBI connections? Ethan has to be killed by peanut butter so that the JFK assassination will look like an accident.

But… Peanut butter isn’t cream cheese.

Even accidentally putting peanut butter on a sandwich for a person with peanut allergies isn’t attempted poisoning. Attempted poisoning requires intent to poison somebody, not making a simple mistake in ingredients.

If this took place in Russia, ethan might have a legitimate concern there.

Imagine Ethan taking several hours just to move through a building because he abandons any corridor that has a window. And if he sees an open window, he just freezes and panics.

First I thought there might be a heroic arc in the future, where Ethan gives his live to protect someone he cares for. Then a cliffhanger and nobody knows, if he is dead or not.
But now I think he will do something incredibly stupid, kill himself by trying not to die and then respawn the next moment with a “Hah, still works” statement. Which will lead to killing himself several times just to be sure.

I think it depends on if this story is a quick arc or a slow one. If the author wants a quick resolution to this, yeah he’s just going to pull an Ethan and brek his neck. If we are going to get longer story with possibly some real exploration of his power/mortality, etc, then I think it will not.

I realize there was supposed to be an “a” in there, but “brek his neck” adds that rhymey goodness.

He should find a hero that can rip open the fabric of reality, and go get Ethan 1.0. I’m convinced he had the same powers we just never saw it.

I optimistically believe no such hero exists in this world.

Ethan 1.0 did die and respawn a lot…

In maths I guess it would be Ethan^2. 😉

While in code it would be Ethan XOR 2. The result may or may not implode something.

Didn’t he mention before how he still was scared of dying, even with his powers, due to the pain and also not knowing how many extra lives he had? Or did my brain jsut make that up?. I just wanted to say, the overreaction and his drastically different behaviour patterns do feel a bit out of place, but then it got me thinking… Even with us normal human beings I guess there can be disconnecs there – ofc we know we are not built to last, so to speak, but few of us truly embrace the thought of death, as… Read more »

I recall this too.

He did, yes. Though I’m not entirely sure how long ago that was, and if he might’ve changed his mind since then. That being said, I could see that actually being a partial cause for this current overreaction. (Using) his power did force him to be a lot more aware of the constant possibility of (final) death, as well as experiencing it far more than usual. At some point he’d have to learn to at least somewhat trust and rely on his power to keep him alive despite the many ‘deaths’ happening so regularly. It’s one of the few ways… Read more »

It’s nice to see Scott of all people more or less going to bat for Ethan on this, because when you think about it he IS the one person with the closest understanding of just what Ethan is going through. He never had super powers, but he did have a very close brush with his own mortality, and he did lose a lot in the incident, both the ability to walk and the love of his life. Most people don’t even really think about the possibility of dying, or just having really bad things happen to them, those who have… Read more »

Honestly at this point, just let Ethan lie in bed watching TV all day so his brain can slowly cope.

Is it just me, or is it weird Scott hasn’t made himself mechanical legs like war machine or iron man? Or braces if amputation is too weird. But then, if Ian’s power could be removed, could it be given? Even a 1 shot to scott could revert him.

Then there is Gear from Static Shock, who had the magic wear off onto him until he figured out he was actually super smart at that point. Would Scott reverting to last healthy also lose that?

The joke here is (If I interpreted this correctly), Zeke swoops in and kills Ethan, answering the question definitively once and for all. (while also ironically proving Scott’s point about the morality of a robot)

What if the troll’s trolling is NEITHER that he goads him into testing the power and dying, or that he is trying to drive Analog mad? It was glowing green goo, much like the stuff from the chemical truck the troll fell into at the end of episode 3. That stuff made the Troll’s hair fall out and gave him green troll skin, and that was just from FALLING into it. So if it’s INJECTED into Ethan… hmm, does it do something slowly over time (if he’s too scared to die) or does it GET triggered BY dying? After all,… Read more »

I swear, if this all turns out to be a Troll Prank, and he’s still got his powers, he needs to troll him back. I don’t know how, maybe forcing him to watch as Ethan offs himself in a number of ways that are creatively traumatic to those who watch?

Y’know, on my walk today, I realized that one of the side effects that this also might have is that Ethan will see Emily’s point of view a little better. https://cad-comic.com/comic/a-difference-of-opinion-p1/ Unlike before, Ethan has now, at least mentally, joined the ranks of people who have no defense when people in costumes start blasting at each other. If he gets brained by a chunk of falling masonry, he can no longer just respawn but he has to live (or die) with the consequences. In the long run, much like the time he smashed Zeke’s eye, this might make him a… Read more »

This does raise the question, how’d they discover Ethan’s ability to have multiple respawns to begin with? The conclusion that one can respawn multiple times, requires multiple deaths. Even if we assume the first case was by accident, one has to wonder what prompted the second (or third if we’re being decently thorough).

They discovered it accidentally, the night they got their powers: First time, Lucas accidentally decapitates Ethan: https://cad-comic.com/comic/analog-and-d-pad-04-12/ Second time, Ethan thought his power was “healing” and stabbed himself in the hand, and then Lucas impaled Ethan accidentally: https://cad-comic.com/comic/analog-and-d-pad-04-15/ It is later implied they purposefully experimented with it 1 to 4 more times after that (depending on how you interpret Lucas’s dialogue) after those two deaths: https://cad-comic.com/comic/drive-p7/ Presumably after it happened not just once but TWICE, they gave it a couple more tries, and that’s how they ‘knew.’ Ethan has also expressed a concern about NEVER knowing, 100%, if his power… Read more »

This is a fun scenario, but part of me still just wants it to anti-climactically end with Ethan tripping while trying to be cautious then dying and respawning.
