But the average Red Dragon has 256 hit points, and there aren’t even any weapons that do a d20’s worth of damage. At most that’s a critical hit, which would double the dmg die’s roll, in this case being 1d6 dmg, giving a muximum possible dmg of 12. At most you could do 24 dmg in one turn, assuming you are playing as a fighter and get the extra action in your turn, and you roll another nat 20 to hit.
If you homebrew/improvise a weapon, it can have a d20 damage die. I once as a joke had my barbarian pull out an anvil and start beating the bbeg to death with it.
So I’ve been thinking about this. Red Dragons have 256 hit points (hps) and an Armor Class (AC) of 19 (AC(19)). Under 5e rules a fighter can use Action Surge (once per turn) to take an additional action (here it would be to attack again). A level 20 fighter gets 4 extra attacks per action used in attacking (so 5 attacks per attack). Using these guidelines we can assume that a max level fighter will roll 10 attacks per turn. Now for the what-ifs… In the image we cannot see other characters associated with the adventure so we can’t assume… Read more »
Of course, this also assumes that the fighter rolls perfect damage rolls multiple times.
It DOES make more sense that the fighter would have armor that provides a buff to their damage output but without support it would also make sense that the fighter is using defensive buffs to offset the lack of direct supporting classes.
So my final determination is that this is a speedrunner going for an “All Bosses/Dungeons” category and that they have specifically tech’ed against Red Dragons.

But then it wouldn’t be funny.
