Only between tiers (1-4, 5-10, 11-16, 17-20) A level 6 party of 4 can take down a single lvl 9 enemy (it’s actually not even a deadly encounter). But 8 vs 11 will be a lot harder (still possible) even though the encounter math also counts it as hard not deadly. But in general, a full party vs a single monster of 3-4 levels more is far from impossible. Highest we did was an Adult Red Dragon with a party of 5 at lvl 8, that’s a gap of 9 levels but we had preparations because we knew we would… Read more »
It’s also 3 on 1. Action Economy is a huge advantage, especially in DND.
If this is their only encounter of the day, three levels difference actually isn’t a big enough gap.
It might be killable, but the odds depend heavily on the game, edition, and their level. In D&D 5e, it might be doable depending on their level. The game assumes characters will reach power spikes at certain levels. If the monster was balanced at a level with the assumption that characters achieved that power spike, then this might be suicidal. Even if that weren’t the case, the odds are stacked against the party because they’re down a PC and don’t have their healer. Without a healer, they won’t be able to beat it through attrition. In D&D 3.5e and Pathfinder… Read more »
I am just saying… It doesn’t loo look like it wants to EAT them, just squishify the party. Some things kill just to kill. Plus, who says it even EATS anymore?
If it was herbivore teeth, there’d be a gap between the front teeth and the grinding teeth. Those are human teeth, or better known as generic teeth, no fangs or “shark” teeth.
Is a common mistake to think that the herbivore can’t eat meat with their teeth, but almost all hervibores eat carrions or even actively others animals if they have the chance (cows can eat snakes, deers can be found munching corpses…)

I love that you can see Four’s miniature way over on the other side of the map.

No way in hell they can outrun something that big, it covers more ground in a single stride than they can in a full turn.
Besides, since when has 4 ever run from a fight? Something tells me she’s moving to ‘range’ for her mega ultra forest spirit deer eye beam arrow or something along those lines….or possible is about to use 3 as a grappling hook arrow…
Or, PLOT TWIST! It really just wants 3’s nose because it doesn’t have one of its own lol

Survival tip: about don’t have to outrun the demon. You just need to outrun your friends.

I seen that 4 was running I had the line “Run For-est, Run!” pop in my head. I’m not a DnD player, but I’ve played enough boss-battles in RPGs to know you DON’T take on a boss fight without a healer, more so if it’s strong enough to one-hit kill any of the party! My favorite game was FF7, once you got the Phoenix summon, those fight became SO much easier to deal with. It did damage to the enemy AND revived/recovered your entire party.

I had a thought, maybe 4 had a moment of clarity and figured out if they stood a chance of escape, it would be a good idea if the spirits were as far away from the demon as possible. And saving her own neck added into it as well 😉

“I poop on people and I blame it on seagulls (it was him)”
I just love the DM’s blank expression while the players decide what to do
— Can we kill it?
— You can certainly try.
I’m not asking, I’m just going.
Three levels of well within killable range for most games.
in D&D three levels is a HUGE gap.
It’s big but well within killable range when one has a full party. The lack of healer makes it pretty much impossible.

Herbivore teeth
Souls aren’t meat.
The term you’re looking for is “omnivore”; omnivores eat both rabbits and rabbits’ food.
Is a common mistake to think that the herbivore can’t eat meat with their teeth, but almost all hervibores eat carrions or even actively others animals if they have the chance (cows can eat snakes, deers can be found munching corpses…)
