Even harder: How did he get the walker walking without Grin noticing? The metal legs should make a lot of sound on that floor, especially with the walker limping…
The roaring fire behind him, the various alarms going off because of the systems they sabotaged last issue, being wrapped up in his own monologuing… Take your pick.

That has got to be painful, sadly he doesnt appear to have melted thru the bones yet, so he may still be able to walk… This battle may still be far from over. So glad we get 5 comics a week for this atm!
Yeah, this looks more like an upper thigh kind of situation, but when you’re talking about having your legs melted off by high-molar acid, we’re probably talking differences of degrees, not kind.
Not when the thing being distracted from is half a second away from getting used. In both this and Goblins, the confession has barely left the diversion’s mouth when the attacker connects.
The longer you can get them to focus on you, the less time they have to notice what you are distracting them from. “No, not the hero, just the distraction” takes a couple of seconds to say.
It’s a terrible idea if the distractee has enough time to react to the realization
Otherwise, if the attack is literally about to connect (like it is here), then saying something may buy you the needed time instead of losing it.
Ever think that maybe his sciatic nerves are in a different place? Or even if he has any at all? He is an alien after all.

Maybe a dumb question. In a previous installment, I remember them “scraping” Speck to collect some of his slime to sell and make money. If he can be scraped, couldn’t he also skim some small amount off with his hands and throw it?
He COULD, sure. But have you ever tried “throwing” a liquid, even one semi-viscous? Probably not a great idea with one of the most corrosive acids in the galaxy, and your friends (or anything you weren’t positive you wanted to hit) standing nearby.
Going by outside shots, this hanger has most of the asteroid under it, but there’s no telling how many vacuum-exposed tunnels run underneath or how close they are to the floor.
Or a reach through for the balls. If that’s where they are…

Other than the general characteristics (it’s incredibly corrosive to everything except mimions and nivium, the resulting corrosion immediately evaporates, it works fast enough to stop bullets, it’s produced constantly by mimions), we don’t know much about mimion goo, so it’s not really possible to tell what will happen now. But if it’s powerful enough and it doesn’t take a lot of it to corrode away materials beneath it, then Mr. Grin here is as good as dead. The first contact will cause a powerful system shock which might kill outright by causing a heart attack, or by quickly losing blood,… Read more »
That is assuming human biology. Mr. Grin is most decidedly not human, his anatomy could have more redundancies or protections against such shock and bloodloss depending on what his race is capable of. All we can say for sure is that he does experience pain, and hes probably going to loose a leg. At least one.
But just in case his alien physiology has defensive designs for this kind of thing (multiple hearts, fast-redirecting blood veins, prehensile insides), Speck should stick with this and keep melting until he runs low on goop or Grin’s head is severed from his heart(s).

Welp, that’s what you get for hiring a mercenary based on how intimidating they are over how competent they are. Not that the Grin wasn’t highly skilled, but a truly competent mercenary would have finished Speck off before falling for Cort’s Distracting Shot, then would have killed Cort quickly, before Nyrah could Intercept. And he’d never have been in a position to be hit by Touch of Death.
His one possible counter here would be to somehow grab a leg of the walker and toss it away. But, after all, Grin is just a mid-level boss, similar to Boba Fett. Will he be around longer, or will he end up being taken care of in a comical manner?
The top bad guy as we have seen so far, is the dude with the one of the other Starcasters on his arm. Depending on how the story plays out, it might boil down to SC vs SC. Who will be wielding it is yet to be seen.

Speck should have gone for the neck, or at least the spine. It would make it a ton harder for Grin to fight if you can’t move your legs.
That’s gotta hurt…
that must be reeeeally painful
ooooh this is gonna leave a mark
No it won’t, the mark is burnt off
Just like the rest of his legs, in about twenty seconds.
Grin wrecked two legs, Speck melted his legs. Seems like an even trade.
Also, I wonder how Grin feels about his own scream. Seemed fairly blood curdling. I bet he’d be impressed in hindsight.
How did he get the walker walking given that some legs were cut off?
I think only one was cut which means as a 3 legged walker it could still walk just be slower and more unstable
Even harder: How did he get the walker walking without Grin noticing? The metal legs should make a lot of sound on that floor, especially with the walker limping…
Rule of cool.
maybe he was distracted
It’s probably designed to move silently, given the line of work that he’s in.
The roaring fire behind him, the various alarms going off because of the systems they sabotaged last issue, being wrapped up in his own monologuing… Take your pick.

If he got the back of the knees then you don’t need to reach bone, just the tendons and it should bring him down. Doesn’t look like it though…
Having no hamstring will also leave you fairly, well, hamstrung.
With the added bonus of being in immense pain from your flesh literally being burnt off … and not being able to touch the one who’s doing that to you.
Yeah, this looks more like an upper thigh kind of situation, but when you’re talking about having your legs melted off by high-molar acid, we’re probably talking differences of degrees, not kind.
The real question is how many degrees…I can’t tell if the reaction is exo or endothermic…
I’m no xenobiologist, but I think that there might be important tendons, ligaments, and muscle attached to said bone.
More likely, Grin is still extremely dangerous even when his legs are melting off.
Though, he DID just drop his sword, so for all we know Speck’s planning on doing a tap dance on his back in a second.
Thanks for this note. I had no idea the frequency had upped. I had to go back because I was apparently only getting half the story 🙂
“Tis but a scratch”
A scratch? Your leg’s off!
Sneak attack are such a pain in the a-butt… (and Costello?)
Guess he should be happy that Speck’s walker isn’t built slightly taller..
Uuuuuuh, that must smart!
Someone needs new tendons.
Why does everyone think it’s a good idea to reveal that they’re a distraction? That sounds like a *terrible* idea
But he was about to go break into a whole “Why You Suck” monologue XD
It’s a terrible idea if the distractee has enough time to react to the realization
Otherwise, if the attack is literally about to connect (like it is here), then saying something may buy you the needed time instead of losing it.
I imagine Spek would have been armpit deep in his quads if *no* warning was given.
Then you have the other kind of reaction where, the person on the ground just *glances* at the distraction and it’s enough to fuck the whole thing up.
I’m just saying, considering the general predisposition to monologue, *not* revealing the trick is probably a better, though less bad-ass thing to do.
caustic substance to the sciatic nerves… the most pain a person can experience without dying from shock.
Ever think that maybe his sciatic nerves are in a different place? Or even if he has any at all? He is an alien after all.

Not a dumb question at all. I’ve wondered the exact same thing.
He COULD, sure. But have you ever tried “throwing” a liquid, even one semi-viscous? Probably not a great idea with one of the most corrosive acids in the galaxy, and your friends (or anything you weren’t positive you wanted to hit) standing nearby.
Plus a possible hull breach as well.
Going by outside shots, this hanger has most of the asteroid under it, but there’s no telling how many vacuum-exposed tunnels run underneath or how close they are to the floor.
Fair point.
Ah, there’s the sizzling!
I bet that smells rancid ?
Well, he looks butthurt now.
Ah, the diversion tactic..
Speck is just being a pain in the ass
He didn’t grab his ass. He grabbed the leg.
Well, I guess Grin won’t have a leg to stand on.
Well he’s got *one*. Unless he falls backwards onto Speck.
pretty sure Speck’s other hand is going for Grin’s other leg
Or a reach through for the balls. If that’s where they are…
