With a war fleet moving in wich there is a true starcaster menace (and not just a poor guy that he doesn’t know what to do), the starcasters should be better use waiting to intercept the war fleet
Maybe, but don’t forget that the Federation doesn’t have the information we do. They don’t know if there is a war fleet incoming or not. They only know the Dranglaex fleet moved *somewhere*, but they have no idea where, or why. They presumably have some preparations in case there is an attack, but they’re not actively dealing with an invasion yet. Similarly, the Feds don’t know the state Cort is in. Or what allies he may or may not have. Or his motives. All they know is he has a starcaster, is on the loose, and is unavailable for diplomatic… Read more »
Nice Job, Quel...

You could have spoken in favor of Cort’s character, but chose to remain silent. You bear just as much resposibility for the coming ham-fisted response by the Federation.
Not the time to defend him. To do so would force him to be taken off the case. By doing what he did, he will still be in charge of finding him, which gives Cort a small chance at being saved.
I wish the Patreons voted to give Cort up. lol

I am not sure I see the advantage of using a starcaster to shoot at other people. Seems like you are better off at just using guns or other ships when it comes to hunting down an individual.
Perhaps, but we don’t fully know what a starcaster is capable of yet. The giant doom laser does seem impractical for fighting individuals, but it’s not like that’s its only function. It can heal people from the brink of the death. It might be able to create forcefields or other near-impregnable defenses. Not to mention the doom laser that could shred any ship sent at them. I can imagine plenty of scenarios where a starcaster is the only thing that can really stop a starcaster.
When facing a doom laser as the primary armament you’d be better off swarming the target with smaller ships. When you can target and destroy the big dreadnaught in the same amount of time as a 1 man fighter craft its better to send 1000 fighter craft and overwhelm them with numbers. each ship is less capable but also more likely to get close enough to do damage before geting takein out. Kinda like how in ROTJ the death star didnt waste time trying to swat individual fighters with the main gun. It went after the rebel capital ships because… Read more »
Again, without knowing what the Starcaster is capable of, speculation is pointless. Could it: – Create an energy wave that can disable or destroy small craft like a tsunami? – Scatter the doom laser like an aerator to destroy numerous small enemies? – Create an energy bubble or field that disables any small ships that come in range? – Manipulate light to act as a cloaking device, or create a mirage for them to target? – Create a gravity well, sucking in anything nearby and crushing them? – etc… The possibilities are endless whenever the rules haven’t been established, so… Read more »
Right, GeorgeV. I can’t find the exact comic where the conversation happened, but I remember Nyrah saying the Aug invented the starcasters as planet-shaping tools, not as weapons, and I vaguely remember the phrase “carve out valleys and raise mountains”, so perhaps it can do more than just channel the solar radiation of a star, maybe it can harness other forms of energy, like its gravitational field, which basically allow for a form of telekinesis. Potentially fleet-crushing telekinesis.
The “doom laser” is made further a moot weapon when you need the device strapped to an organic arm. What is one supposed to do, roll down the window and shoot out? You can’t fire ship to ship without also loosing your own ship. One could fire from the surface of a planet, like has been done already, but good luck aiming. Clearly though the amplitude can be controlled such as in https://cad-comic.com/comic/the-starcaster-chronicles-05-09/ Not to mention any other abilities that can be adjusted until they show up in a comic.
Maybe the seasoned star caster users know how to harness the power.
Like how a little kid holding a garden hose gets soaked. But an adult can use their finger to channel the stream and aim.

In other words, Quel still hopes to pursue Ryder to not get killed by the Feds and their Starcasters, meaning he would be breaking the Fed order. I doubt old Quel has the means to kill the only child of his best friend. Doesn’t seem like the type for it.
and now the other wielders of the Starcasters have names
I nearly missed their names! And so the plot thickens….
As well as the federation (Adastra), or did I miss that earlier?
Adastra…or Ad Astra? Latin: To the Stars.
Someone saw Astra Lost in Space
Check… check. Added.
We may need pros to apprehend a noob, but wait… he has beginner’s luck, we’re all F-ed

For all we know, a starcaster is like Ramiel on steroids, with multiple firing modes to fit all occasions…
Send lots of small ships against Cort? AOE smart-laser tracking mode, on!

Perhaps some ships have the ability to interface with the Starcaster directly. This might allow for the enhancement of shields and weapons with it.

Agreed, this path could put Quel at odds with the Federation, which I think sounds narratively interesting.
“Do you still believe Cort Ryder can be convinced to come in peacefully?” “Frankly, I have no idea what the voters will say, so no idea.”
