The Starcaster Chronicles 08.00

February 8, 2021 by Tim

Between the website, Patreon, and prepping the books and now the Kickstarter, my wife thinks I’m too stressed. As she is far smarter than I am, I’m going to take her advice and release an issue of Starcaster to lighten my workload this month.

New pages 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.

Released #7 in April 2020. That issue ran from April 8 to May, 12, 2020. It’s now February, 8, 2021. By a few months your shy of releasing each one almost a year apart. Said your working on #10. What happened to releasing them as soon as each volume on patreon is finished. You said you would. Stress or is being lazy?

I like the Starcaster Chronicles. Wouldn’t be upset you released a issue here as soon as each volume is finished like you l remembering you said you would.

Best $2 I give every month. Based on the public data, there are also several patrons who give just a $1 despite not getting the benefit of seeing the new pages early or voting on the key decisions. Guessing they just believe in the work!
I’m just so glad we get to see where this story goes and thank you Tim for continuing to work on it!

Jaw drop moment. I had no clue that people could get so demanding for something they get for free. just … what? Now I will also demand my money back! Jokes aside; before this response I wanted to drop a line, saying that for me you do not need to ‘up the speed’ meaning I would be just as ecstatic if the (for me) new Startcaster would drop at 3 issues a week; or whatever rythme will enable you to take a breather. Thanks for this content mate, and looking forward to September to see them physical, and if that… Read more »

I get your work for free. Not because I want to, but because I am struggling literally every day to keep my kid eating and a roof over us and not having things go apocalyptic (they are ‘brutal’ but apocalyptic would be unrecoverable period). Every dollar counts for us. I say that to preface this comment: It’s the height of narcissism for Beatrice to castigate you for the free product you generously share with the world. Selfish much? Entitlement is alive and kicking, I see. Some of us just don’t feel the need to donate, but could. It’s a choice… Read more »

Please please don’t let the troll ruin this time for you. Thank you for taking care of yourself, and for allowing us without any spare income to partake and enjoy. I was just going to say I was literally dreaming about Starcaster Chronicles last night! (I also dreamed I had a plushy Speck. Maybe one day).
Again, thank you for brightening all of our days with your art, and your hard work. Please don’t let yourself burn out. Take care of yourself first. If we need to wait, we will!

I apologize for calling you lazy. I’m not a troll, I was saying what I was thinking at that moment. It’s called fixed budget. Or I would consider helping. Like I want to with this kickstarter, like I did your last one. (Coffee isn’t good for you. And doesn’t taste that great either, my opinion) sorry I came off as being disrespectful or rude. I see the error in what I said. I’ve enjoyed your work since I stumbled upon it after getting into fallout and seeing your comic on nomutants.com. Thank you for sharing your artistic talent, and story… Read more »

ya know, he has a life, so stop projecting your problems onto an author of a webcomic

I’ve not witnessed such a dramatic self-immolation in AGES…. Straight up doused ourselves in petrol, lit a match, and shrieked “WITNESS ME!!!!” unto an uncaring god who didn’t blink an eye as you turned to ash.

Sometimes it’s better to reread what you’re writing a few times, and imagine how *you* would feel if someone said such audacious things to you, and then *scrapping* the whole post before you embarrass yourself instead of posting it…. But you do you boo.

Wow… Entitled much? Listen, sweetheart. Pay the man for his work, THEN you can feel entitled.

On top of everything that was already pointed out, its just a dumb prespective. how can you claim lasiness when Tim never misses a deadline? Starcaster Chronicles or something else, we get new comics 3x a week, and those dont show up out of thin air. AND, he could be releasing these the same way, to stretch it out, if he was just being lasy, but no, we’re gonna be getting a page every day, 5 a week, which means his break (if hes actually getting one) will end sooner than it could if he chose to.

Stress is mostly determined by how much you worry about the projects, not by how much you actually need to do. Make small daily todo lists and add some gamification to reduce your stress and increase your efficiency.

Well meaning as these kind of suggestions from people like Wolph are, I find that people who don’t work in creative fields (specifically, creative fields that require regular release cycles, deadlines, and actually FORCE you to be creative under time pressure) have no frame of reference for how difficult it is to make a list of goals and, “just be creative.” Most jobs lend themselves to that kind of structure where you can follow a process and just “do the work” if you knuckle down and focus on clearly laid out small goals. Creative work like the comic format you… Read more »

P.S.
Stress makes creating anything so much harder. Tremendous respect for the quality of the work and creativity of the ideas you have despite everything going on in life.

Relax and recharge. The anxiety of some on here at the thought of less content coming from you is a reflection of the quality of your work. If it sucked, nobody would care enough to be critical! (At least, that’s what I always tell myself. lol)

I kinda thought there was going to be more with the current storyline, seemed to cut off rather abruptly. Always nice to see new Starcaster plot though.

Have you thought about writing another wintereenmas tournament story? I understand why you can’t illustrate the entire thing, but I enjoyed reading the last one that was posted as a pdf. That was pre reboot, I think.

So hype! The Starcaster is probably my favorite comic that you write, not that I don’t love your other stuff but mmm… excited.

Tim, I have been a metalworker professionally, and now do it as a hobby. I appreciate the level of detail you put into your depictions of Future Space Welders and the associated tools.
