I don’t understand the motivation of the “security guard” here. Why would he risk his life to attack Quel when he stands to make some money for whatever information he can provide, truth or otherwise? If he just wants to mug him, it seems like a risk hardly worth taking.
If you find a pile of bodies and someone takes an interest maybe either the killer or other hunters will get offended and look for revenge against him. Or someone else has been through asking the same thing and offered a bounty on anyone else that comes looking?
chances are someone has payed him to make sure anyone who asks questions about that incident ask no further questions. Thug guard in a seedy place? ya he’s on the payroll of at least a dozen parties.

The dude’s probably connected to the time acid-man was threatened, where he offed a thug and got the rest to cover him with a threat of being found and melted.
It seems the acid-skin species has a fairly fearmongering-like reputation, so anyone who knows the survivors of the incident from the last chapter would be inclined to help them to avoid one of the most painful ways to die imaginable, except for maybe that parasite thing from the early chapters.

But then, couldn’t he have just stuck to the lie of “refueling accident”? He’s security, not a coroner. He isn’t exactly an SME on cause death.
