Welp, that could of gone better… at least it is being handled by the higher-ups rather than a corrupt station Captain this time. The real question is, will he be forced into service? Will she be allowed to stay with Cort through it all? Will the Lance Major help in Cort’s training?
I have to agree, but she’s more experienced with it so at some point she’ll need to add input as well. Cort needs to know the finer points at some point, like how to fly in space with it, or how to use it multiple times without harming himself like that planet-craker did. Fast, short bursts to take out those huge ships or if they are dumb enough to line up right, to take out a line with a longer one.
We *KINDA* have it, though it is very rarely used there is a breathable liquid that’s been around for several decades. Most people remember it from the film ‘The Abyss’ where it was used for extreme deep diving, but in reality the rare few times it is used is for people with extreme lung damage or in the case of premature infants as it is significantly less taxing on the lungs to absorb the oxygen directly. It’s extremely expensive, requires even more expensive equipment to utilize, and has a myriad of other issues which is why it is so rarely… Read more »
The bacta tanks in Star Wars and the regenerative vats in Starship Troopers both used an air mask as does this one. What the fluid in each case is one that has many drugs and chemicals to speed healing and treat any disease a patient has. Combined with the water weightlessness is a huge help for everyone involved. I know when I had a bad car accident, I wished I was weightless, even the bed caused me pain. So the fluid also matches the body’s buoyancy as well.
And, like Jaysburn above, I hate to be that guy too, but it hurts my brain when people use ‘myriad’ as a noun or a unit of measure–it’s an adjective: “…and has *myriad* other issues…”

You think pieces of the prince’s body were falling off of him while he was being put onto the litter?

For some reason, she’s reminding me of the girl that shot future Ethan in the old timeline.
i feel that, tim does seem to have common characters that fit through his work, that i have seen anyway. i guess the real question is; is ethan/cort more like player 1 or 2. there is an obvious answer, but im not so sure.
I think Cort is a combination of players 1 through 4 with a bit of Ethan’s randomness thrown in. He’s smart-ish like 2 & 3, He’s gung-ho like 1, Brutal like 4 when he’s pissed or scared, and emotional and protective like Ethan with his “smart” dumbness.

hmmm somebody knows where the action is at… also.. WOW! hes already recovering REALLY well! his whole head is char free!
He used his starcaster to blow the crap out of the planet you see in the frames. The “backlash” from using the caster like that caused the injuries, hence the need for the big tank of healing.
One of the things I like most about the Starcaster stories is that everything seems to have a moderation limit, nothing is ever “free” and it does a lot to tamp down inane questions like “why doesn’t X just blow up every bad guy?”
Everything has a limit and some consequences and the characters try to do their best to achieve their goals while minimizing consequences.
It makes the story feel “grounded” when you have interstellar travel, artificial gravity, and tons of space aliens.

Well, I guess that explains the ritual around the whole “destroying a planet” thing.
Damn! :O
(on all the fronts)

I think the Lance Major will more likely needed in the fight.
My guess for a trainer would be Major Danton (from Comicpage 08.08)

I’m sorry to be that guy, but it hurts my brain so much.
It’s could have*, not of.
They left Cort his sidearm. Prob would have felt silly taking it considering his OTHER arm 🙂
Maybe he’s not a prisoner?
Pretty sure the Lance Major could have cut his arm off fast enough to disable his starcaster if he were deemed to be a threat
I wish we had “bacta tanks” in real life

I wish we had “bacta tanks” in real life.
To be fair, most tanks depicted in that way have a facemask for airflow, including this comic.
the problem is we need a fluid that helps heal people, not one that people can breathe.
Bacta tanks actually just have bacta, not many drugs and chemicals.

So he agreed to come in with them, not bad.
