Queue years-long training arc of Cort trying to learn how to fly, without success. Finally he gives up his pride and asks La’Ni to teach him.

And then she replies her flying is just an ability of her species and nothing to do with the Starcaster.

“There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss”

Yes! Thank you. That is perhaps my favorite quote of all time.

Close your eyes, that’s a 50% miss chance. Now, use Throw Anything to throw yourself at the ground, 50/50 chance you will miss. You are now flying.

Chopping the arm is out of the discussion, or is it not?

IIRC Cort thought of that very early on into having the StarCaster and Nyrah told him his arm would regenerate almost immediately.

I wager the only way to take it off is to have another Starcaster blast it off.

I mean a small knife is completely different from a large and very sharp sword that can slice through his arm basically instantly.

He isn’t stupid either, so he won’t be easily duped into becoming a tool for some power-mad oligarchs (Federation or otherwise). He will either keep the Starcaster as out of the galaxy’s power balance as possible, or (more likely)… Use it for the greater good, while trying to remain independent enough that no dirty agendas tangle him up. The Federation and Cort need to focus, honestly and ethically, on the many common interests they have.… Read more »

I now want to see Cort doing zoomies around his cell.

So, can the Starcasters even be destroyed? Say you have the starcasters clash and destroy each other.

Speck did speculate that Mimion slime could destroy a Starcaster. Or, to quote him: “I don’t want to be known as ‘that Mimion who found out a Starcaster could melt’.”
