It’s the knife’s edge between panicking the populace and properly informing your armed forces so you can actually win. Personally I think they need to know there’s gonna be two sunfuckers blasting beams out into space if they want to engage and win. Lying is only going to hamper their combat effectiveness. But socially this going to have a huge ramification. They already blew up a planet. Now the Federation lost one and they gained another. This the worst nightmare. I love that she advices to not trust too easily after the blunder she made in chapter 3
They’re going to announce that major Danton is more of a major Dantoff now, but would they literally spell out that the starcaster is lost?

They might claim that it was passed on to Cort to preserve morale.
Pretty easy sell from a propaganda standpoint, as most people thought it was 2:2 anyway. Even Speck did in issue 1.
