I think it’s actually good. A civilian ship shouldn’t be there without good reason. It takes valuable space that could be used/primed to be used for avoiding annihilation. Not to mention that there is less scrutiny on random civilians than their own military personnel, which couldn’t prevent a Dranglaex supporter of taking out a Starcaster. The Aphelion, a freighter with guns, could harbour Dranglaex or syndicate supporters. They could start attacking the ships there, and then start blasting into the interior, possibly with a hot Super L drive. They also have a Mimion on board that could melt through the… Read more »

Is this idiot going to kick Cort out of the Federation ship/out of the Federation? That would be freaking hilarious to see the Federation’s reaction to that.
Yeah if he gives Cort guff they should exit in their vessel and hang out as close as they’re allowed. Making the Federation look foolish should at least give Cort some favor with La’ni

I wonder if Cort was issued with a phone or comm device to contact his superiors on the ship.
Issued – definitely no, cannot issue anything to a civilian. At most something could be lent by some officer personally, with no administratively enforceable obligations to return.

I’m going to miss this comic when he locks it behind the patron paywall 🙁
I think it’s about 12,- a year? Doesn’t seem much for the amount of pages you get. The strange set up of Patreon and that I’ll probably need to give them my credit card is a bigger problem for me. It’s about 3 beers for a years worth of content, several times a week.
The true tragedy of micropayments is that Visa and Mastercard can’t allow it because it destroys their duopoly and everything else downstream can’t get around it.
If I could pay Tim Buckley a *penny* to see his page and lose <1% to transaction fees I would do it every single day. And I think server costs less than a penny per pageview. But the infrastructure doesn’t exist to do that.
Even crypto which promised user controlled decentralized payments is too inefficient and unwieldy to process transactions of that nature.

Cort, no words are necessary, just point at the starcaster. If the man has half a brain he will understand that he needs to go get his boss to deal with you.
It wasn’t publically announced to the crew that they’ve got a new Starcaster duderino lurking around, so everybody most likely thinks it’s some sort of a styrofoam costume part.
And the last Starcaster got lost because some spy blabbed about it

OK, but in the immediate aftermath of an ambush like this, it makes sense that they would want any non-federation craft off the ship in due course.
So I heard catch 22 is a good novel.
Ah, bureaucracy, keeping the order up even in the face of annihilation. Comforting, isn’t it? :3
