“Of [their] program!”
And he called Zeke by their name.

Nice!
Scott is definitely turning around on Zeke. 😀

Man, it feels weird to be this proud of a fictional character.

Good going Scott.

I like the implications of what Scott says on the last panel – it means that violence is a choice. And that harkens back to what ZK said much earlier: “… the inherent aspect of free will – the ability to choose”. Though, I confess, there is also something on this page that I don’t like – it’s Ethan’s argument on panel 3. Scott has just suggested a way to potentially gain leads, Ethan declines and declares that there are no leads. Well, yeah, if you aren’t looking, leads aren’t going to just land on top of you. But I… Read more »

I thought the same when I read that.

I felt it was a real line. Like we say things all the time think this… Oh there are no leads so we shouldn’t bother. But really I feel you hit it on the head he is giving ZK some space. But giving up and not looking may make one feel like they are not doing enough. Start cogitative dissonance. So it is easier to say to yourself nothing can be done and do not think about it too hard.

I think the panel 3 argument is something Leo’s and prosecutors have to deal with all the time…prioritizing resources for investigation.

Can’t be everywhere. Can’t fix everything. Gotta focus on the investigations that can do the most good.

It wasn’t so long ago that Eugene got Ethan’s personal information and threatened him if he continued to pursue. And so Ethan and Lucas decided together that the “Hunt Eugene Down Like The Criminal Mastermind He Is” job should be kicked up to others.

It is, quite literally, none of their business. And I honestly don’t think that either of them think that it’s worth the time and effort to track down a criminal who is quite literally trying to tear modern society apart, in order to save him from the consequences of his actions.

Well this is how it will go down: Zeke will watch the Futurama episode about Benders free will – and have another mind-crysis. 😉

  1. Shouldn’t be “Zeke are safe”? Why plural with the pronouns and singular with the name? I’m not a native english speaker, so is this a true convention or…
  2. I don’t really appreciate Ethan’s reasoning about Eugene. Even if we consider his criminal activity, leaving him in captivity and potential danger is not a very ethical solution for the situation.

Still, always enjoy your work. 😉

Yes, this is, in fact, the convention when using “they” as a pronoun to refer to a single individual. It’s just one of the many quirks of the English language.

Since we’re referring to a single individual, verbs are conjugated in 3rd person singular when used together with the name. Zeke is.

But… to keep in line with grammatical rules of the pronoun “they”, verbs are conjugated in 3rd person plural. They are.

English grammar has more exceptions than rules and is one of the harder languages to master, and I’m saying this as a German/English bilingual native.

Cheers. 🙂

Shakespear is wearing the trench-coat and peddles stolen words because he’s too ambitious to only sell his extensive homebrew.

If you think about it, the pronoun “you” does the same thing as “they”. They are plural as pronouns, even when they refer to a single individual.

On your second, leaving Eugene with Zeke is basically like saying it is a family issue and they need to settle it without us involved. We know now that Zeke won’t necessarily be violent without cause so let them deal with each other.

They can be singular or plural. For example, “Can my friend come over for dinner?” “Sure, do they like pizza?”

For petes sake, quit it with the “they” business. you’re wrong, you’ve been wrong for 200 years. The author of the comic themselves has told you to fuck off.

Singular they conjugates in the same way as singular you

We say “you are” the same as “they are” but when using someone’s name we say “x is”

That’s how the language works. Singular they has been around for centuries, literally longer than singular you

Its the latest fashion in America, to refer to yourself in the plural if you are one of the parts of the LBGT+ community. Its typically notable as something those that are in the process of a “transition” between sexes do, IE, that which a male does when he wishes to become female. He will ask for the plural pronouns, then he/she/’they’ will ask for the opposite sex’s pronouns after a period of adjustment.I suppose the idea is to take the proclivity for use of the plural in cases where the individual’s sex is unknown to the speaker, but in… Read more »

What Eugene deserves to to be put on trial with Zeke as the star defendant and conscripted into a high-ranking form of community service where he makes technology for the government and eventually pays his debt to everyone his robots attacked.

Really happy with how this chapter is closing. I do think Eugene is probably being hurt in some way (even if it’s just in a locked room), but that aside, I’m really happy to see Ethan and Scott on the same page now. People kept saying Scott was gonna go full arch-villain, but I just never saw it going that way. This feels a lot better than that.
