Trust, p21

August 19, 2020 by Tim

As I’ve recently mentioned, Patreon is a great way to support the creation of this comic while also getting additional content in the form of exclusive comics each month. However I’ve heard from a handful of people who would prefer to support with a single larger payment as opposed to a monthly subscription.

Fortunately, Patreon has just offered a new feature:  You can now choose to pay for access to our Patreon on an annual basis. One payment, receive extra content for 12 months.

Not only does this support my work, but it reduces transaction fees, the hassle of credit card declines, and for a limited time, pledging annually saves you 16% on the total cost of 12 months- that’s two months of Patreon access for free!

If you’re an existing CAD Patron, you can change your subscription under ‘Active Memberships’ on your account. If you’d like to sign up for one of our tiers, you should now see an option to pay annually when selecting your membership level.

This kinda looks like a final panel, will be sad if we gotta wait for lucas’ reaction but this was interesting. He set up shop in their, shop… I like it. I hoped we would atleast get a few good steps from Zeke here even if plot forces big changes.

I imagine the last panel would be Scott explaining to Lucas that the zone was expanded to prevent mishaps with Ethan, and some discussion/reactions.

Seriously. It would be totally reasonable for Ethan to take him out into the still closed store to select some games right now.

My GPS says it would be reasonable to expect positions from all the buildings next to the current building, too. A comic GPS might be more accurate, but reasonably only a five-minute-average would avoid a false positive … usually. Being in the store for a minute should be nearly safe.

Do you plan to add the option to pay on an annual basis for the star caster patreon?

This is both cute and kind of concerning. Never thought I’d think him better-adjusted when he wanted to break Ethan’s spine.

So… if he can go crazy, that is the definitive proof that he IS a sentient being. Right?

Just to rekindle the discussion in the previous panel.
My question:
• Did Scott *really* plant (or reactivate) the bomb? Could it have been just a bluff?

To which @Nobody replied:
• He never deactivated it. He just took over control of the dead man switch and added other ways to trigger it.

It’s just a technicality. We know he took over control, and we know he’s certainly capable of adding ways to trigger it if needed.
That wasn’t really my question, though. I wasn’t asking how Scott did it or whether he could do it, but if he actually add a trigger that would destroy Zeke if he left the room, or if he decided to be honest and give him actual freedom.

The thing is, Scott had no reason to lie to Lucas. Unless that scene was setup specifically for Scott to lie to us through the 4th wall (which doesn’t really seem the style here), I see no reason to suspect that he didn’t set up the GPS perimeter.

Thing is, using GPS to establish a perimeter is extremely unreliable and imprecise. There’s a 10 m radius error in civilian GPS signals that can be increased to 100 m in state of heightened security. Your perimeter would need to be an order of magnitude larger than that to avoid triggering it by accident.
Going further, GPS doesn’t work indoors. If there’s no signal, should you take it as indication of out of perimeter or within perimeter? Because if it’s the latter, you can move around in the sewers just fine.

So he was speaking generally. There’s no hard line just outside the door’s threshold, just a vague store sized to block sized safe zone. That’s certainly a realistically achievable perimeter, we already do this in the real world with ankle monitors for those under house arrest. Perhaps ankle monitors are a step above standard civilian GPS units, perhaps not –I’m certainly not an expert in the matter– but I believe it’s a safe assumption that someone like the master would go the extra mile to keep track of his hypocrisy fueled war machines. Something along those lines would also deal… Read more »

If he likes the kill-my-friends-bot, he’s hiding it from himself. I think he’ll come to that stage after spending some time with our new overlord.

In a world with sentients robots (especially one who could be tracked by his former master) I’m willing to believe GPS technology has progressed further than IRL

To be fair, they would not know if the explosive is functioning because they are not the original engineers of the device. The original creator could have botched the execution perhaps without even realizing it, or environment could have altered it’s effectiveness, etc.

“Early 2000s Zeke emotional state” is a much nicer way to end this than “scattered Zeke bits on the ground”. This will be beautiful, I know it 😀

This is brilliant and comical. Comical, obviously. But brilliant in its Coping plus Sentience. The bot CAN’T simply “accept further incarceration” but knows “voluntarily staying put” is his best option. THUS? Create your own kingdom within the space. Brilliant.

Patreon’s new “12 month lump payment” feature comes Awfully Conveniently at a point where they are at risk of going completely belly up due to a massive wave of potential lawsuits coming in from from far-left and far-right political based patrons and their subcribers when Patreon decided to shut down their channels with no warning, depriving the Patron of their income and the subscribers from the content they paid for and suddenly can’t receive due to the channel disappearing… Patreon new they fucked up, hence the sudden radical shift in their terms of service to try to protect themselves from… Read more »

Let me guess (because my brain is as malfunctioning as Zeke thinks)… Zeke was going to conquer the big world, then he noticed he was in a full packed video games store so he changed his priorities.
