Okay, lets discuss details: The table is for four, unfitting. It is located right by the stairs, an unpleasant seating as everyone will run past them, not a very romantic setting. No decoration on the table, too.
Eating a burger in a fine(r) restaurant might be an american thing, I don’t know. What about the wine?
She is wearing a dark evening gown, overdressed and showing too much.
The room is empty, either they are too early or the restaurant has other disadvantages we do not know about, yet.
We can’t see her lower half, so that could just be a top with spaghetti straps and jeans. Seen women where this type of tops plenty of times. The rest is just about drawing only what is necessary for the plot. The extra seats are probably for someone to join in the scene later.
My husband and I are middle aged and by no means trendy, but we go on dates at restaurants pretty much weekly, where we are frequently sat at tables with four chairs. Often it’s because the place is understaffed or running short on staff at “slow” times. Which means our server is handling the entire section, so it’s easier for them to put us at a table that’s too “big” for us than to put us in a corner and have the poor server running across the restaurant to keep an eye on their customers. As to her… We only… Read more »
Those aren’t stairs, some establishments have seating on a different level or a foyer of some kind at the entrance, leading down to the tables. The amount of foot traffic you’re worried about would just be new people arriving or people who have finished their food and leaving. Also, establishments, fine dining or whatever, with a hamburger on the menu means that hamburger is amazeballs, you’re thinking “mcdonalds” here bud. Also unsure what you mean about “showing too much” too much of what? She’s not in a tight fitting dress with her breasts bumped up showing cleavage. It’s fancy-ish, but… Read more »

Always curious about Her inner monologue while all this is going on: ‘Curses! Foiled again! Have to be faster on the uptake.’ ‘Good for him, able to make decisions now.’ ‘Is he jumpy for some reason? Suspicious…’
From watching a lot of stuff from people who escaped relationships with narcissists, the general consensus seems to be that they think everyone thinks like them. To a narcissist, EVERYONE is playing these games: gaslighting, pretending to be different versions of themselves in public vs private, and that it’s all a game of which depiction wins out. There is a non-zero chance that she thinks Ethan is doing the exact things she does because she thinks EVERYONE is like that. Genuine expression is a concept fully alien to the narcissist. The narcissist’s victims are “playing their role” in the narcissist’s… Read more »
Getting into political discussions online, it seems many people do apply this kind of thinking to their entire lives.
“I want to win. Everyone else also wants to win. So you do whatever it takes, because that’s what everyone else is also doing. Anyone who doesn’t do this is stupid.”

This might just work out. Happy for Ethan! If only I could have my own goddess..
Don’t be desperate. Not every hole that seems fuckable, you should stick your wang into. That’s how you end up with years of therapy, kids, or an ER bill.

I will be so angry with everyone and myself if she turns out to indeed be just a controlling, insecure woman who genuinely likes ethan but doesn´t know how to do that whole “lets be a couple” thing.
I agree – but it’s unlikely. Often after a major row an abusive partner will lovebomb and return to the “honeymoon period” of softened, seemingly changed behaviour, which serves consciously or otherwise to hook their victim back in. I think that’s what this was.
Ethan’s “stepped out of his role” which is unacceptable for a narcissistic abuser like her. She’s decided he’s her submissive boyfriend, so she’ll do whatever it takes to get him back into that position.
It’s very possible. Sometimes people can do that if they feel like they’re losing the relationship. Bonus asshole points if they do it in public where the ability to say no is a lot harder.

Well, at least now, he could just suggest they go on a romantic skydiving adventure with no parachute if she becomes too much again.
Yeah, this is turning into getting your healthy teeth pulled in slow motion.
There will be relief when it’s over, but only as a contrast. Not because there is anything fun.

She is going to present him her parents…(Omnibus music)
Unlikely, doubt they’d be ordering food before the parents arrived in that case.
Not unlikely that someone will sit down anyway though.
Or maybe you’re just reading way too much into it 😉
Nothing Tim presents us comes without a specific purpose – so I don’t think we’re reading too much into it – we might just read it wrong 🙂
I’d say the room is empty because it’s more work otherwise for something that doesn’t affect the story.
Then why are we even seeing the whole room? Could be a booth, that would have been enough.
Sometimes a banana is just a banana.

I think the only thought would be, “oh, you’ll pay for that later”

She’s going to propose.

For a moment I thought that was a callback to the previous Ethan and one of his dates.
Then I remembered this one has a superpower.
I cant wait for this arc to end
