My and not my loins guess would be that Lucas will be picked.
Emily being picked also crossed my mind, but
– I don’t think she even applied for the Crown Bowl
– we already had once before Lilah having been picked for a certain closed Beta
I don’t know how good Ethan is in this version of the comic, but I’m pretty sure in the original he sucked at EVERY game.

All loins aside, I’m digging the variety of crowns I’m seeing in this arc. Emily’s circlet and the laurel wreath from this issue are particularly are fun designs. I kind of hope that – should Ethan actually win the crown – said crown turns out to be a petite tiara, rather than the stereotypical big, dramatic imperial crown. Something about the image of Ethan proudly displaying a dainty little tiara on a velvet pillow (or cradling protectively it, as he whispers sweet nothings) strikes me as funny. Yeah, the benefit of Winter-een-mas being an established, widely-accepted holiday in this continuity is that I really get to expand the scope of it, which is something I was trending towards in 1.0 (with Ethan losing the crown/his place as THE center of WEMas). There are lots of gamers with varying tastes, and your Winter-een-mas crown should be an extension of that. Celebrate the games that bring you the most joy.
There are classic designs, but I also envision very niche crown designs as well.
I enjoy the thought put into it and the attention to detail – it things like this that make the world feel more robust and real. I also appreciate the fact that it’s worked in organically, as an established facet of the world that just *is*, without needing attention called to it. I’m sure it’s tempting to have a character point out things like this out (“Hey, I like your crown! I went with this design this year.”), but I personally appreciate the credit being given to us as an audience to notice/discover (or not notice/discover) the little things on… Read more »

Hey Tim have you ever considered attempting to create a Games Bowl in real life?
I realize that the logistics of this would be right up there with a full on gaming convention, plus the liability would be insane… But it’s nice to dream!
I think it’s gonna be Emily that gets picked this year, and Emily getting to live out Ethan’s dream is gonna be one of the things that drives them apart because Ethan won’t be able to just be happy for her.
I hope I’m wrong about the second part. I really like Emily, and want to see more of her.

It is nice to dream, but yes… the finances and resources required would likely make it untenable.
