You know, there are a ton of video games shipping this week, and not a single one interests me. Don’t get me wrong, I have not forgotten that we are on the verge of the next-generation onslaught, but to be perfectly honest, beneath all the Wii/PS3 hype, I’m not that excited.
There are only a couple of Wii launch titles that I have any immediate desire to play (Twilight Princess, and Rayman) and only one PS3 title (Resistance). I think I’m just becoming sort of numb to console launches. As exciting as they are, there just aren’t very many games available at launch. Good ones, anyway. Half of the games the PS3/Wii are launching with, I already bought on the 360 last month.
It was the same way when the 360 hit, a year ago. The launch was a big deal, but after it dropped, it was agony waiting for good new games to come out. Now, though, they’re rolling in faster than we can keep up.
It’s just as well, because I have this awful habit of never finishing games, and it drives me nuts. I’d like to at least get close on some. It’s like an awful case of ADD that only pertains to video games.
I’ve obviously got plenty of more Gears of War, as well as Tony Hawk: Project 8, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance which I’m still playing. Our team, in case you were wondering, consists of a super-awesome Iron Man, a hateful, greedy Spider-man, an expendable Colossus, and an OCD-ridden Moon Knight. We’re a wonderfully dysfunctional little family.
I’ve also been playing a little bit of Viva Pinata with my girlfriend. At first glance it seems like it’s a really simple game, but they actually managed to pack a lot of depth in there. It’s colorful and often cheesy, but it’s also cute and strangely addicting.
I’ve put the Winter-een-mas site and forums back online. I know it’s early, and I’m certainly not getting ready for the holiday yet, but some people like to plan early.
Tomorrow night I’m doing this X-fire/MTV Gamer’s Week thing. I know I’m doing a chat at 8pm (sign up on the site) and then I think afterwards I’ll be playing some Battlefield 2 with attendees. I’m not quite sure how it will go down yet, but I’m sure it will be fun.
