So I’ll admit… I gorged on Dead Rising the past couple of days. I was trying to get work and stuff done, but all I could think about was running zombies over with a lawnmower. So I figured “why fight it?”.
I completed my first run through the game last night, so I’m hoping that will satisfy my needs for a couple of days so I can catch up on productivity. I didn’t go for the True ending (I got too wrapped up playing in the hardware store), but I did end at level 26, and I’m already looking forward to the second play-through of the game.
I noticed a lot of people have been complaining about the save system (only having one save slot). Personally, that’s one of my favorite features. I think video games have been getting too easy over the past few years. Especially when you can just save every five minutes to a new slot, and if something doesn’t work out, go back to a previous save and try again. Where’s the challenge in that? Back when I first started playing video games, we didn’t even have saves. You had to leave the console on inbetween play sessions and pray that the power didn’t go out.
One thing that bugged me about the game was the absolutely moronic AI of some of the survivors I would try to rescue. There was one pair in particular, I rescued them from a women’s clothing store. I think their names were Burt and Aaron, if I recall correctly. And this was early on when some of the gates in the mall were still down and I had to take them the long way around.
Now, Burt wasn’t too bad. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was fucking Indiana Jones compared to Aaron. Aaron couldnt grasp the concept of “run from the zombies”. Aaron liked to “run into the zombies”. And then sit there screaming until I doubled back to rescue him.
Aaron, you were a little bitch. I’m glad the zombies ate you, and I’m glad you turned undead so I had a chance to kill you myself.
Ok, I need to go do some work before I start feeling the desire to play again.
