…is this, ethically, a weird form of torture? Zeke is basically a prisoner and being subject to Ethan. And while he doesn’t actually have to do anything Ethan says, there’s that unspoken current of ‘you’re kind of being stuck like this unless you reform’.
It’s Deprogramming (har har) forcing someone whose been led into a very narrow definition of reality to ask questions about that reality and snap out of that limited method of thinking.
Not really that different from society’s rules of conformity. If you don’t play by the rules, you might be locked up for the protection of others. Perhaps call it his rehabilitation.
That’s exactly what Ethan has been arguing against. Scott describes Zeke’s programming as constantly rewriting itself, which is a requirement for artificial life. Even if Zeke is too entrenched in his hatred, due process is best; bring the robot to court and let the professionals handle it.

Why do I have a feeling our turning point will be from a bug… Maybe a better question would be which game.
Hey man.
I like your comic, but lately i keep on getting the pop-up to buy a Ctrl+Alt+Del 1.0 Digital Book Set.
That’s fine of course but as it is now I get the pop-up about 5 times before I can read a single comic page. Maybe check that out.
(I’m on firefox if that’s any help)
I only just realized that it might be a dig at Ethan’s power, heh. Questioning his humanity? I’d say that’s just a coincidence, but Ethan is experiencing actual angst about his death and reincarnation.
good art can only be done by the artist creating as they see fit. doing something they don’t want to do tends to degrade the quality. even if it stays good, it wont be as good as it could have been.
story telling, pictures, comedy… all art. if Tim switches to another story without getting into it, one or more of these will falter. i am not saying you cant want something else, just that demanding it is at best pointless and possibly detrimental if followed. especially in the middle of an arc, many of these are likely written well ahead of time, but it is hard to pick back up in the middle and still keep the flow going.
If there was an attempt to silence you, your post would be invisible. In fact, it’s about as far from Communism as we can get that Tim will tell whatever story he wants whenever he wants and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it; we’re just wielding this reality against you.
Given how the relevance of art to your whining about a work of art eludes you, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest you’d make a completely flaccid attempt at political misrepresentation.
It appears you’ve embraced this role of being the most pathetic commenter here. I don’t normally respect the “get a life” mantra, as if those who say it get to decide what defines a life, but you really justify it.

Anyone else getting a massive video ad directly under the comic?
Not the small banner, the video that used to be just in the lower right corner and is now just above the comments.

He’s better get it right. There’s only one Fallout after 2, unless you count The Outer Worlds.
He means Fallout Tactics; some purists refuse to acknowledge Bethesda’s influence in the slightest. On the opposite end of the spectrum, those generous enough to enjoy Fallout 4 still wouldn’t give 76 the time of day. F76 players aren’t even on the spectrum, they are beyond salvation.
To be fair, Bethesda’s Fallout is completely different compared to the originals. So I can understand were the players from the beginning are coming from.

This one got a good laugh out of me. This dynamic is way better than the original Ethan-Zeke a decade ago.

It might be helpful to describe the benefit of playing games at the expected pace because of emergent storytelling. Even the base narrative can feel very different depending on how focused/relaxed your traveling style is. A lot of that is in panel 3, but maybe the extra vocabulary would help?
He’s an AI/robot/computer/thing. He could (and probably already *was*) ‘speed run’ an entire 60h+ game in less time than current methods used result in!
If he was told to find the quickest way, *he* would be done in under a second! xD

After buying a girl’s freedom from raiders in the early part of Fallout 1, I returned to the raiders and methodically filled all of them with lead. The leader of course needed way more than that, partly because he could one-shot me with ease. Of all the luck, I critical-shot him so bad he fell flat on his face long enough to be given both grenades I had; and EVEN THEN he got up just in time for me to critical-shoot him one last time, and only then he died. God bless save-scumming. I love the fact that this fictional… Read more »

That robot better be careful if Ethan boots up Fallout 3, 4, or heaven help it Fallout 76. The bugs and glitches might f**k up its programming.
No video game glitch was so bad it bled out and ruined other programs, save for crashing the computer. The worst a fully-patched 3D Fallout could do is increase Zeke’s blood-lust via irritation.

I see it as more of an intervention. They can be torturous, sure, but as that’s not their main function I wouldn’t call them torture.

Absolutely, 100%. Like he said a few strips back, he’s just trading one Master for another. Do as I say or be shut down forever.
Not really that different from society’s rules of conformity. If you don’t play by the rules, you might be locked up for the protection of others. Perhaps call it his rehabilitation.
Don’t talk sense.
Not really. If Ethan let’s him go, he’ll currently kill Ethan.
funny thing about killing ethan, it does not stick.
But it may happen in 76 303 different ways. One after the other.
Which one is being tortured, though?
Ethically, he’s a machine. They could turn him off permanently with no ethical quandary.

Fallout 3?
Maybe if we get lucky he’ll like the franchise enough to fix all the bugs in Fallout76 when he gets to it, and make it playable at last.
76?
Zeke discovering he can beat Ethan at a game?

Hrmm, that shouldn’t be popping at all… it’s just a thing on the sidebar…
Still dealing with a murderbot.
I liked the Yolo! part, felt very human. XD

TBH, Zeke is kinda pissing me off now.
Goood Goooood! Let the hate flow th…. wait, wrong game. Sorry.
O_o. Why?
Because no one likes a cybernetic dickhead
This must be your idea of a racial slur; calling Zeke “cybernetic” is like calling Voldemort a mud-blood, or Adolf Hitler a Latinex.
Ugh, no more XB……….can we check on the Players?

Personally, i enjoy almost all of the storylines
The point of forums is to express opinion. What’s next is certainly up to Tim. But you can’t just silence my opinion, you’re not a Communist

Well, there’s also not a damn thing you can do about what I say. How about that?

He’s a computer/robot/AI/thing. He can experience all of that, just at speeds far faster than us meatbags are capable of. Probably did…
Come on Ethan … introduce him to the speedrunning scene 🙂
