Batman isn’t practically immortal, if Ethan gets hurt he can die and come back healthy. When he broke his arm in a previous issue he stabbed himself when he got home so he didn’t have to deal with it.
In Ethans defense, this wasn’t really a (dangerous) mission, it was supposed to be a harmless flyering/searching job. Even civilians do those when their cat is missing. There was no actual reason to expect involvement with criminal drug dens.
Against Ethans defense, dark alleys with criminal drug dens probably aren’t the most sensible places to loudly go flyering/searching.

Perhaps he should get himself a self-destruct option, in case of capture explode and respawn
Interesting, but doesn’t he usually spawn in the same spot? He’d still be basically in their hands.
Assuming he doesn’t want to kill enemies (let alone risk hurting civilians), there’s then the question of where to put a bomb that would kill only him. ‘The Boys’ has some suggestions with the way they killed Translucent, but I suspect Ethan would take issue with that one.
Iirc he can respawn a short distance away, and he can choose precisely where. Not sure how this works with obstructions, as in can he die outside a sealed vault and respawn inside it? What about the other side of a 3 meter wall? What if the wall (either one) is see-through? Going by the theme of his ability, I imagine it’s mostly along the lines of “around Ethan’s position some time in the past”, like with a checkpoint. So, he should be able to respawn outside the building where he got grabbed, maybe around the corner. Or, he can… Read more »
You know I don’t think this is confirmed but I’ve always assumed that he respawned where he was in his last healthy state. So if he got punched and bruised out in the alley and then later died, he’d respawn in the alley at the site of the punch. If he could control where he respawned it seems like they would have figured that out by now.
that would conflict with the time he killed himself to heal a broken arm. he’d have respawned back where the beating happened not in the apartment where he reset himself. The only consistant thing we’ve seen with his powers is he respawns near where he died. sometimes the same spot, always at least nearby, and never merged with another object.
Depends on the range and limitations of his respawn. Extra lives in general respawn you somewhere that you’re safe, so I suspect he has some extra leeway in that respect. Can’t really spawn camp a guy that spawns in a place you can’t reach.
On the one hand, I find it hard to believe that ZK would rely on fleshy meat sacks for anything at all.
On the other hand, it would be super ironic if ZK tried to orchestrate the demise of human civilization by human hands – because that is exactly what the weebmaster intended to do with machines (let machines destroy machines), hence the obsession with robots.
Given that Zeke/ZK was near isolated from the rest of the world till very recently, that would be a very rapid gang development or promotion.
IF the boss is anyone from the backstory it could be ZKs creator…
That only works if you do it in a dark room in front of a mirror, and you’ve got to type it like thirteen times.
All jokes aside, I think he usually refrains from posting, other than to clear up misconceptions or course-correct if something in the comments section has gone totally off-the-rails. And almost never answers questions directly.
I tend to skim the comments here and there on update days. Often I have nothing to add and just enjoy watching the reactions to a comic, or the theorizing about where things might go, or to see if people are connecting the dots to things I’m doing.
Sometimes I hop in. And sometimes I answer questions directly 😉
And re: Chef Brian, I have no idea. I brought him back for a while as a Patreon tier, but whether I’d do more in the future… never say never, I guess.
It’s the cliche use of a “biker gang as drug dealers”. It’s just so trite. I guess that it is because the theme has been used in various video games that it would rub off on you. There’s no risk to use because who’s going to care about that demo?
And in the middle of a megalopolis? Not exactly what I would call the usual area for that kind of group.
Motorcycle clubs that wear the 1% patch are clubs that identify themselves as outlaw clubs. It pertains to a statement once made by the AMA in the 1940s that “99% of motorcycle riders are law abiding citizens.” Some clubs declared themselves the other 1%. A motorcycle club trafficking in narcotics would certainly qualify as an outlaw club. While I don’t doubt there is a decent amount of crossover between motorcycle clubs and white supremacist worldviews, the 1% patch is a club’s identifier of their outlaw nature (the Hell’s Angels are a 1% club, I believe). If the patch has suddenly… Read more »
Also, Re: Chef Brian, I honestly thought you said that you were going back to him. If you ever do, that would be quite interesting! I don’t think I will read it, but neat for those who enjoy him!
Yeah, the 1% for OMCs and the 3% for the Threepers or OaTh KeEpErS have nothing to do with each other. Despite both being single digit percentages. Just FYI.

Ethan is clearly A) not worried and B) having fun with this. I love it.
“I could kick all your asses, get the cops here, not break a sweat, and still get home with enough time to sleep for work tomorrow. But you guys are amusing so I’m just enjoying the moment before the screaming starts”
Better: they shoot him, and he makes a mess of the place in a whack-a-mole game of shoot/respawn.
I mean, right now they’re just threatening to kill Ethan. I know it hurts every time, but by now he’s got to be so desensitized that it’s like they’re threatening to beat him in Smash or something.
As long as he didn’t leave his communication gear behind, Ethan holds all the cards. They don’t know who he is, how his powers work, who the people he’s closest to are, and he knows their location and has incriminating evidence in front of him. There is literally nothing threatening here to him.

I’m surprised Ethan’s response wasn’t simply “good luck with that”. But their reaction to his powers should be entertaining.

His body respawns, but not his feels man, not his feels.
Maybe this is the chapter where we learn that if Ethan is high AF and respawns, he remains high AF! That’s why the chapter is called Bad Blood – the drugs remain in his blood during a respawn.

Well, time to use the explosive remotes…what do you mean Ethan doesn’t have those?
Even Batman doesn’t go truly solo on missions.
Not even Solo.
Batman isn’t practically immortal, if Ethan gets hurt he can die and come back healthy. When he broke his arm in a previous issue he stabbed himself when he got home so he didn’t have to deal with it.

Wasn’t there in one of the older stories where he weaponized his re-spawning into getting into the blind spot of the opponent?
EDIT: Well not exactly the bit I recall, but here
https://cad-comic.com/comic/analog-and-d-pad-01-14/
he died getting skewered by a sword, and respawned behind the opponent
It always shock me when you see the style of Tim years ago and said to yourself “when was the change?”
Holy crap his art really has changed a ton, very interesting to see his style and skill progression.
He blows himself up in the second issue just to respawn behind the guy and catch him off guard.
…Is it bad that I want them to waste Ethan? ?
I suspect that may happen more than once. 😛
…Uh oh.
Zeke is the boss.
Even Skynet needed humans to work the crematoriums.

Couldn’t help yourself could you Tim? Oh well.
…. some kind of inside joke?..
could you care to explain for slow of thought and uninitiated?
Apparently I’m not on the inside, because I have no idea what he’s talking about.
Is that how it works? We just say your name and you reply to our comments?
In that case, thank you for making this. I really appreciate your work. Also, will we ever see Chef Brian again?
i wonder if it is reference to the the bad guys attire

HAHAH I WAS RIGHT!!! It not a cliche if it true!

Oh right. Bigotry again. Offended that these bad guys are white. Ta Ta!
Other races can’t be in a motorcycle gang? What a bigoted statement you just made.
Is it possible that he’s referencing the 1% patch on their vests, as a reference to the similarly percentage-based white supremacist group?
…not sure why anyone besides a white supremacist would be offended by that reference being here, but hey, just a working theory.
Motorcycle clubs that wear the 1% patch are clubs that identify themselves as outlaw clubs. Wow thanks for explaining!
I thought the 1% patch was some sort of arrogant “we are part of the 1% economic class” which was interesting weird spin to put on a criminal gang!
(also this explains why they have nametags)
Thanks for the info drop! I was going to say something about the Occupy movement : )

Typically when you respawn, you lose buffs and debuffs alike.
Go ahead, ‘waste him’, let’s see how that goes for you.
Congratulations on the 20 year anniversary:)
