In my limited free time, I’ve recently started working on my next set of books to hopefully bring to print. The Ctrl+Alt+Del 1.0 Box set contains everything up to November of 2012, and I’ve now put out an additional five years worth of content that I’d like to get organized and released.
My goal is to put out three books, each the first in a series.
- Analog and D-Pad, Volume 1– Will include the first five issues of Analog and D-Pad, plus all of the Ethan and Lucas stuff I’ve done since 2012 (both here and on Patreon).
- The Starcaster Chronicles, Volume 1– The first five issues of The Starcaster Chronicles and more.
- Ctrl+Alt+Del 2.0, Volume 1 – Basically everything else. The one-shots, the console wars, the Players’ campaign stuff, etc.
Now my philosophy when putting books together is that its never acceptable to simply take whats on the website and throw it into print. It has to be better, has to include more. And that’s definitely my plan with these books.
I’ve started with The Starcaster Chronicles, so I’ll use that as an example. A lot changed over the course of the five issues, and I do dialogue/formatting differently now than I did in those earlier issues. So my first step is going through all five issues and remastering all of the dialogue.
This means creating a uniform and consistent format for the entire series. I’ve also found that, due to the nature of stopping and starting writing to allow people to vote, some of the dialogue felt disjointed or unclear when I went back to read it. So in some instances I’ve rewritten some dialogue so that it flows better from page to page.
I’m also taking the opportunity to clean up bits of the artwork, and fix some mistakes. Obviously, short of redrawing entire pages, there’s only so much I can do, but I can definitely tackle some of the more egregious errors.
But it doesn’t stop there. One of the biggest requests I get regarding The Starcaster Chronicles is “What would have happened if we had chosen option B instead?” Well, the book will have an entire section where I go through each issue and, choice by choice, discuss what might have been. Within the boundaries of spoilers against future content, I’ll give you an idea of how Cort’s adventure thus far might have been different (or ended) by different choices.
And finally, the book will contain a bunch of lore and worldbuilding information like Ranks of the Federation, information of various species of aliens, etc. All sorts of background stuff that I’ve written as personal reference for the series, but that may not organically end up in the dialogue between the characters.
The other books will be similarly filled with stuff.
My idea is to eventually launch a single Kickstarter to try and fund all three books, because that way, doing them at the same time, anyone that wants multiple volumes can save on shipping (as opposed to doing one book, and then a few months later doing a second, and so on).
So that’s a thing I’m working on.
Tim,
Sounds great! Really enjoy looking through the Vol. 1.0 set and what you did there. Will be nice to have some of the newer content with similar treatment!
Awesome, I’m really excited! I remember way back when you were first toying around with the idea of the 1.0 boxset, and I’d actually saved all of the individual strip images and used those to bring up some rough numbers (I like to think that it helped). Can’t wait!
Sounds good! I can’t wait to see what happens 🙂
OMG If you do a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book for the Starcaster Chronicles then you can shut up an take ALL my money!
I would really like to see a Starcaster novel someday
Me too XD
It doesn’t *need* to be a Choose Your Own Adventure novel, but I don’t see how that could go wrong.
DAFÜR! *clearing my throat* Sorry. I was so blown away by this idea I fell back to my mother tounge ^^
Really looking forward to it!
Sounds great.
Really Great.
More of your awesome stuff in print, and more books for my book shelves.
Starcaster chronicles is something I would look purchasing in an instant. A&D would be as well. But since the 15lb behemoth sits in a place of honour on my shelves, I think any of the other collections to come out would be pretty easy for me too. But Starcaster, seriously. I have been itching for the next issue for quite some time already, stupid cliffhanger!
I’m pretty anxious to get back to it as well, especially going through remastering issues 1-5 right now. I’m thinking maybe in April I’ll start up issue #6 🙂
I could not have expected any better news, thanks Tim!
I backed CAD1.0 for the pdfs and digital video files. I’m not super interested in paying for a physical book and the shipping that comes with it, but if there are digital formats available I’ll certainly want those.
Got on the Vol 1.0 KS within a day or so, can’t wait for these!
My mrs won’t be quite so happy, as Vol 1.0 already takes pride of place on the table in the lounge ^^
More Console Wars as an addition.
Any updates on the books? Looking forward to them!
Chipping away at them 🙂
Can’t wait, I would love to have these on my bookshelf. The Starcaster Chronicles is some of your best writing.
