That genuinely looks awesome. And being Obsidian is quite promising at least that we get something nearly as cool as presented at worst… So far that was has happened.
I think it loooks a bit like fallout meets borderlands meets bioshock (i couldnt point out exactly why it reminds me of bioshock, it just does), but im really exited.
I actually really enjoyed fallout 4, but… well, it just left something to be desired. And i hope this being obsidian, they bring back the different ammo types. For the life of my, i cant figure out why they didnt use that in fallout 4 after all the focus on weapong customization.
I didn’t really feel like I was “customizing” weapons as much as I was “Maximizing them” in Fallout 4 And honestly the most interesting customization started and ended at the pipe weapons because after that it was just “Ok, now we just make it hit harder and have more ammo”. It felt like we traded a more interesting and varied selection of weapons for less weapons with more niggly bits to add either minor boosts you’d ignore or massive boosts you’d always prefer over anything else to depending on how invested you were in that particular trait. I’m not sure if people have been playing recent Obsidian games and noticed how many of them are…uh…NOT….First Person Shooters if they’re getting their hopes up on Outer Worlds and how even the Isometric RPG games are pretty….OK, they’re OK.
They’re a bit all over the place, but they’re OK.
I mean I will remain hopeful, but…we tend to ruin our own experience of these games by hyping them ourselves.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Though it is interesting that after Obsidian got bought by Microsoft they announce exactly what fans have been wanting to see from Obsidian, a First Person Fallout:New Vegas-like RPG. So maybe Microsoft is having a…. positive influence? I don’t know I just hope the story is better than Deadfire’s.
I’ll credit Obsidian this; In the sit downs and talks they’re making it very clear that this is sort of an “Educated First Crack” at what seems they would like to make into a series. They have high hopes but don’t want to “Todd it up” by overpromising They’re taking the lead on this and borrowing T2/2K to help out which, all in all is a pretty good “FPS shooter game” developer to bring on if it isn’t necessarily your wheelhouse, though with the most recent demos I’m already seeing some of 2K’s bad behaviors like “you talk with your… Read more »

I’m late to the party in regards to Outer Worlds…is it an open world survival game which is played online or is it a new Obsidian RPG which can be played offline and isn’t a survival game?
A fairly major company doing a single player RPG?
Assuming it’s done pretty well, or at least “worth about 5 bucks less than entry fee” well, then we can always use more of those.

Borderlands all shined up is what I got. There were even Boner-Farts in there! The only thing that was missing was Claptrap’s voice. All that being said, this does look good and I will probably get it depending on how the game is actually structured.
I feel like you guys aren’t looking past the setting/tone (which does lean Borderlands), because the type of game this aims to be doesn’t really share all that much with Borderlands (which was a bit more Diablo than Fallout in terms of RPGs). https://www.polygon.com/features/2018/12/7/18129759/outer-worlds-obsidian-entertainment-new-rpg-preview Some snips: In the fiction of The Outer Worlds, humans can’t survive hibernating for more than a decade. This really sounds great. Although I didn’t touch such a game since Borderlands 2, it really intrigues me. Sounds interestingly innovative imo.

hmm weird, I got small fallout vibes off it but it def screamed borderlands more to me.
I mean set in ass end of nowhere, boner farts, corporations owning everything.
legit need mystical space jedi babes with guns and we set.
Okay, but if “1950’s era post-apocalyptic wasteland” was the only thing that made Fallout Fallout, then people wouldn’t be bitching about Fallout 76, would they? 😉
So in terms of what most people are actually looking for from a Fallout RPG, I think The Outer Worlds is going to be closer to the mark than 76 was.
I’m totally with you on the fact that Bethesda dropped deuce on 76. As a long time Fallout fan, I’m disappointed with whatever 76 is (it’s definitely not what it was supposed to be).
Oh, also, I think that Bioshock vibe everyone is catching is mostly art style. Preliminary assessment of gameplay appears to be very much Borderlands/Fallout-y. I kinda detect a little Dishonored in there too in the art style.

The Outer Worlds looks absolutely amazing. I’m a huge fan of absurdist humor, free-form gameplay, and retro-sci fi, so this is right up my alley. About the only interesting announcement from TGA, aside from Joker in Smash.
I wish my local game store had people running it HALF as passionate as Ethan and Lucas. Think I’d go there more often.

Fallout 76 is quite a fun game.
You monster
I’m very hopeful for this. I love fallout (excluding 76), but this has me really excited for a new game series.
That. . . . looked . . . good. . . If we still get to make our own character I am definitely going to get that one.
Borderlands much?
Looks fun though
You saw “Fallout” In that? Not Borderlands? Interesting.
(yeah I realize it tagged Fallout devs as contributors)
I saw big, open, character and story based RPG with dialogue options. So yeah, I saw fallout in there.
I’m hoping its a little of both., just put the weapon customization in the hands of the players. Make it optional, but make it possible.
Fallout has been playing itself too straight recently. It’s like playing a Duke Nukem PS1 game and realizing those jokes aren’t self-depreciating.
I think it loooks a bit like fallout meets borderlands meets bioshock (i couldnt point out exactly why it reminds me of bioshock, it just does), but im really exited.

true and I admit its not just the 1950’s post apoc vibe that I saw. I def saw a blend of both games. just maybe a 60% borderlands sway to it.
