I’d really hate it if somehow the supers they are teaming up with are responsible/involved. Setting up a line of which side do you choose, do you have to lie.

I thought 30,000 was a ridiculous number of police for a city, and then I looked up New York and realized how big the world actually is and how difficult it is for our mortal brains to cope with large numbers.
So to be fair, New York has 3x the police force as the next largest police department, Chicago (Although Chicago has a good bit higher police per capita than NY). Honestly, Chicago has waaay too many police per capita – New York, at least, is on par with Tokyo police per capita.
I… Can see why you would think that. But no. Fridging is a trope where the main characters love interest is killed to give the hero a reason to do something. Normally done in sequels, but movies like John Wick obviously did it in the first. Bad guy kills wife, so hero has to go get revenge, sort of thing.

We never knew her job, and she looks athletic enough to be a police officer.
And it would give Ethan an interesting turmoil; she’s toxic, but now she’s gone, I can’t help but feel bad for her…
