The suspense is pretty hard, I really wonder what happened there.
Is that a “normal” confused state caused by the trauma of being in a lethal situation?
Or is it in the literal sense when he says he doesn’t know, because they ran into a supervilain with a strange ability that Ben couldn’t process?
Its pretty normal for being in a lethal situation, especially if the only reason you didnt get hurt yourself was random chance. If Ben was standing right beside his partner when it happened, then the only reason why his partner got shot while he didnt was basically down to luck. Something his brain isnt accepting as a valid explanation – it cant be just luck because if it was, that means there’s no way to prevent getting shot next time and you cant rely on luck to save you -so its trying to find other explanations. All i want to do right now is yell:
“Lucas. What he needs now is safety. Be there for him and don’t ask questions. Especially not detailed ones. You’re just making it worse.”
I understand what you are saying but Lucas has been super scared since he heard a police officer died. He is desperate for answers and he probably can’t help it. But of course I wish he stop talking and just hug Ben.

Ok so yah like I thought, we’re dealing with a survivor’s guilt situation. Those are the worst ON TOP of PTSD from the traumatic event itself. This is what is really going to test their relationship and his love for the job.
Right now, how he’s feeling and handling it, is totally normal. Lucas is pretty introspective so I think he’ll pick up on what Ben actually needs in this moment. Reliving memories ain’t it, though.
The nightmares will do that for him…

Survivor’s guilt is a son of a bitch. ‘I tried’ is never enough. There’s no bargaining, there’s no one to blame but yourself and not being good enough. I still struggle with it 20 years after deployment. Life is one long safety plan and sometimes feels like a childish act of defiance, but I’ll be damned if they get me too.
