They can see if his blood vanishes when Ethan respawns by looking to see if the blood is still in the jar. Ethan JUST respawned, so look to see if the blood is still in the jar. That will answer the “What if it still vanishes NEXT time you respawn?” question.

Still would be a problem if his blood is mutated. The tests they should run on the blood would indicate the mutation and would allow the doctors to work out his secret identity.

I think the question was more, if he *doesn’t* die in the process, does his blood still vanish.

If you look at the image closely, you can see the blood vanishing in the same pixelated iconic way Ethan is also respawning. That’s why Lucas is concerned as to what happens to a person with his blood if Ethan were to respawn afterwards … would he suddenly lose a lot of blood? haha

I’m surprised he isn’t selling his organs, looking at those prices.

actually, I know now why that wouldn’t work
if his blood disappears when he respawn, his organs would, too

Honestly its probably because he can’t sell more than once without becoming suspicious because then he is selling more than he can live without.

They keep track of how much you’ve donated anyways. If someone somehow donated a gallon in a day they’d notice.

Those are some good and interesting questions by Lucas. And given the blood disappeared when he respawned I think we know the answers to some of them already.

To be fair, his body currently needed that blood since it hadn’t had time to replenish. If he donates then his blood replenishes then anything he donated shouldn’t come back because then he would have a bunch of excess blood suddenly inside of his body.

That asumes the mater from the old body is part of the new. For all we know when one instance of ethan dies all mater, no mater how much extra there is vanishes and a whole new body with no conection to the old appears and has the memories copied over.

I wonder if this Ethan was as suicidal as he is now before the powerup. Like, original universe Ethan was, and it was played for laughs – would similar behaviour have actually killed him in this universe without the superpower?

As far as I am aware, 1.0 Ethan was eccentric and somewhat mentally unstable (though over time he became just eccentric) but he was never suicidal. He did sometimes take drastic actions for seemingly no reason because he sees games as a crucial part of his life, but I am fairly sure that doesn’t mean he is suicidal. 2.0 Ethan is still eccentric (though it is slightly toned down) and is mostly mentally stable (though his behavior is still erratic). He is doing all of this because he knows he is effectively immortal, so there’s no reason for him to… Read more »

So I guess the disappearing blood means this wouldn’t work. If only we SCOTT knew someone who SCOTT might be able to take a smaller SCOTT size sample of our blood and synthesize a larger bit of it

Yup different direction but Ethan could be a serial murderer if he was more thorough. Blood at the scene of the crime? Respawn. Skin samples under the victims nails, respawn. It would only matter if his fingerprints were reclaimed after a respawn as well. Good thing he’s not evil, and (reasonably) morally upstanding.

I mean, he might run out someday and just drop dead, but he certainly has a ridiculously large number given the way he behaves. If Ethan was more introspective that’d probably be a terrifying existence depending on your ability to come back to life constantly from all your crazy stunts, knowing the next one might be your next and you have no idea. Maybe scott’s done some sort of test on him to see if anything’s changing on his respawns? Hm.

Fingerprints are basically residue being left on contact, so its safe to say that they would vanish too.

Wait a second, if his blood disappears when he respawns, doesn’t that make the entire issue with Zeke getting his blood sample ages ago moot?

In that strip, it doesn’t look like there is any blood on Ethan’s hand. So maybe it’s just fingerprints on the controllerrang that was stolen.

But here’s the fun bit: if his fingerprints also vanish, then what was the value of that?
Simple: Zeke already took a picture. He didn’t make a match, but he has the data. And if Ethan didn’t die before Zeke made it back to base, then bam bonus stuff.

That asumes the fingerprints were entierly his body oils. If he were printed by the police there is no reason to suspect the ink in the shape of his fingerprints would despawn from the paper. There’s also nothing saying the badguy couldn’t anticipated vanishing prints and scaned them into digital form as soon as zeke had the controllerang with plans to fake the prints back onto the rang later if needed.

That’s only the case if his blood always disappears on respawn. It could be that it only did so here because of the quantity and/or because exsanguination was the cause of death.

Ethan and Lucas are slowly becoming their old other universe counterpart again. Wasn’t the idea to have Player 1-4 be the comedic element while Ethan and Lucas were to be fleshed out as story-driven characters? At least with this comic it further develops Ethan’s powers, but some of the other joke strips I wonder “If the Players were to do the joke, there’d be no difference”. Am I just being pedantic?

Just the sudden pressure collapse of magically-disappearing blood would probably kill a person instantly. Fun comic, lol

This comic made me wonder something. What is going to happen to Ethan as he gets older. I’m assuming he’s still aging (though sometimes these types of superheroes dont after they get to their mid 20’s for some reason) and eventually hes going to get something that will kill him. Hopefully he’s not headed for some sort of Methuselah situation where he is perpetually old and feeble, but cannot die.

Him.

Considering that this happened when he was 30ish, aesthetically he won’t notice a lack of aging for a good while.
