Such a hard part of learning about the world.

Ah, I sure miss the days when sequels would come out quickly enough and nearly always be at least on par with the games they succeeded.

It depends on if the company making the game series is a big AAA company or not for the most part in my opinion. If they are AAA, then greed is the name of the game, and they generally don’t care about the customers.

A hard pill to swallow, but the cynicism will definitely help you navigate life.

Ah, the joys of growing up from an innocent, bright-eyed child to a cynical, depressed adult.

This exact thing happened to me recently! Hard to deal with the ” if it’s not finished then why did they put it up for sale?” .. not fun times

Wait until you get to the stage my son is at. Desperately begs for game he has seen on Steam. A year later: 20mins total playtime.

Depends on the game really. Some games are pretty short.

Gotta give him some credit, 20 minutes is still more than I’ve played a lot of my games on Steam.

Lol. Its tough. Its easy to use hpye and limited time things like preorder bonuses to sell games but when the exes know they can make their game sell it has stopped felling important to make the game GOOD.

I suspect most developers hate releasing unfinished buggy games. It’ll be the studios and publishers that enact that crime.

My rules are simple. Always read the reviews. Always wait for a sale. I don’t play multiplayer games much at all, so playing it day 1 and playing it a year or two later is the same experience, to me. It saves a ton of money.

Ah, I still remember Aliens: Colonial Marines. I was so excited for that game, I very nearly broke my rule of “always wait for reviews”. But I hardened myself, and waited. And read.

And then I was even more depressed!

Although, once it had been patched and (years later) the .ini typo found and fixed, I did have a good time playing it with my nephew for the price of a cup of coffee. So they kind of got a sale. Eventually 😉

Sadly, you have to be EXTRA cautious about bandwagon games. When it’s a 4 person co-op in the wake of 5+ years of 4 player co-ops flooding the market, there’s a significantly higher risk of it just being slop trying to get on the bandwagon. There’s a few good ones who shine, and several dozen ones trying to copy it with half the budget because it was a success.

I waited so long for Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2… didn’t even end up buying it because of watching streams and reviews that said it really didn’t live up to the first.

Same here. The first was such a landmark game for me. I had the sequel in my wishlist from the moment it was announced. Then came the delays… the change in publisher… more delays… and ultimately, a game that seemingly carries nothing in common but the namesake.

Yeah. that one physically hurt. When it first dropped, I pre-ordered to show support and interest, because what was initially promised sounded amazing. Then it got delayed. And delayed. And delayed. Then dev’s left, and teams changed. I canceled my pre-order, and quite glad I did. From what i’ve heard, the game could of been decent if it had been released as a ‘vampire’ game. But the fact they tried to release it as a sequal to the masterpiece.. without anything that made the masterpiece a masterpiece. So many games do that. ‘hey, you wanted a sequal to MASSIVELY popular… Read more »

I remember getting Poppy playtime for my nephew and we played it together, then refunded it on steam because you can finish it in like 20 minutes, and saw they were going to charge for each chapter. Seemed kind of scummy back then.

It’s been my philosophy to never buy an early access game. I mean, if they want someone to test their game, I will do it happily as long as I get paid, not the other way around.

I’m now old enough to wait at least 6 months after the release to buy a game. No bug, a lot of mods, and cheaper.
