My boys love sleepovers. And we do a lot of them, I think. I did sleepovers when I was a kid, but I seem to recall them being more of a special occasion kind of thing. My kids want to have friends over constantly; almost every hang-out tends to include a request at some point to escalate it to a sleepover.
And I get it… They’re still young, and having a friend over, staying up late, sleeping out in the sleeping bags or whatever… that shit’s fun at that age. But I have a little internal ranking system in place for which of their friends I’m willing to put up with in my house for that length of time. Not all of them make the cut.

YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE?!
More than one kid? There were already slice-of-life pages with both kids before
“He can stay. But only if he can defeat me at Smash! Muahahaha!”
Considering the games he chooses to highlight, as well as the strange way he chose to end the Console Wars series, I feel safe in saying that Tim doesn’t strike me as a person who could trounce your average middle schooler in Smash.
The idea of it does seem tiring. But considering the alternative are friendships that only exist through screens: This seems more likely to end up having been worth it later on.
That’s a great way to look at it, and usually the goal, but depending on available space (I live in an apartment for exemple), getting them in the same physical space is sometimes not enough to pry them away from screens.
And I usually draw the line at sleepover. Spend the day, lunch, dinner, the works, just let me sleep in peace after it’s all over.
nevermind the fact that they are likely just going to be on a screen or screens while hanging out together during the sleepover….
Hey, it takes a village. Maybe you can be a positive influence in the lives of the little shits.
I remember my friend’s mom telling me she didnt like me in my face. Still thinking about it.
Hmmm. Absolutely no bedbugs, fleas, lice, bed wetters. Mental disorders (sleepwalking, night terrors, bigger stuff) and other illnesses on a case-by-case basis session zero. Nothing contagious ever. All else also in a session zero.
Most kids are annoying, especially other people’s children who you have very little control over. It’s is just part of life, hopefully they don’t burn your house down.
When I was a kid it was my parents who decided who my friends are :/ Having no friends was not an option. Had to wait till adult for that.
Kids have it better these days.
Weird art comment – for some reason I feel the joke would have had more visual impact if the small scroll was as wide as the large one, just not as long. I think my brain assumes, because it is smaller in both dimensions, that the text size must also smaller, and you could therefore still have a lot of names on it. If it was as wide as the large scroll it would imply that the font is the same size and so there must only be one or two names at most. My apologies for anyone who took… Read more »
Oh man, sleepovers. Dad was strict. Only 1 sleepover a month (didn’t matter where it was) and had to be home by 10 AM.
Of course, I and my sibling never obeyed the second one, and mom was the way around the first one.
i appreciate how they’re both the kind of dorks who carry scrolls around with them just for when these conversations pop up
