Can Ethan even gain muscle mass? If, for example, he doesn’t die for a couple of weeks and exercises a lot, thus achieving some gains, does he get to keep them if he respawns?
That’s an interesting question. It respawns him to his last healthy state. Now after a workout, it could be argued you aren’t healthy, however after your body has recovered is this the new healthy? It’s something I’ve thought about more than once honestly. How it all ends for Ethan. Will he reach a point where he stops aging? Will he keep aging forever?
There’s a Webtoon about that – Immortal Weakling. Dude respawns a short time (a minute, I think? Been a while since I read it) after he takes even a minor injury – up to and including tearing a single muscle fibre. He finds a way around it eventually, but it only lasts for a couple minutes a day.
Yeah, we can’t be sure. Tim clearly knows we nerds/geeks/etc. love to hypothesize about how super-powers work exactly. So, he gave us a character with a power that turns out to be trickier and more nuanced than it seems at first glance. BUT he doesn’t give us all the details (maybe he didn’t even bother to work those out), to keep the mystery alive and the hypothesis flowing. Haven’t played in a while, but G.T.A. San Andreas?
Granted, I haven’t played that many games. But thanks to people around me, I do hear a lot about many of them. My point was, games that do that are in the firm minority right? So, the commonplace rule (and the one most likely to apply to Ethan, then) is that his “stats” should remain at their highest achieved.
It’d be interesting, to see Ethan develop that. He could reach impressive levels of strength and much more. Impressive for him, at least.
