It Seems Like Yesterday

July 24, 2017 by Tim

How fitting that Niantic celebrated the one year anniversary of Pokemon Go by reminding us how completely frustrating and unplayable their game was a year ago.

I have no opinion about the Pokémon joke, actually I haven’t played any Pokémon game ^^
But I celebrated the “Hideo Kojima writes a batshit bonkers plot” phrase 😀

It’s not a Pokemon joke exactly, it’s specifically a Pokemon Go joke. The game at launch was missing a lot of features and had terrible servers that made playing…difficult for many people. Just like the celebration.

“Assassin’s Creed in space”.
Yes, they could do it. And I would totally play it.
And you too, admit it. 😛

Assassin’s creed in neanderthal times. (though not necessarily)
Assassin’s creed in post apocalyptic times (presumably the final chronological one)
Assassin’s creed in classical Rome
Assassin’s creed in Nazi Germany.
The Cuban Missile Crisis.
WWI
Vlad the Impaler (he’s the origin of Dracula by the way)
The list goes on.
(this is some things they COULD do, though not what they should do)

Assassin’s Creed in Feudal Japan. Sure, it’s a ninja game, but it could be a really good one.

A brilliant idea my good sir.
I think that would be like native advertising only it is working within a games own genere.

Don’t get me wrong niantic is not free of blame in this. But I gotta say anyone who has spent any time in grant park during a music festival or anything else where grant park gets pretty busy should’ve expected pretty much exactly that.

While I completely agree that Pokémon Go is a terribly botched game, it really makes me sad. I look back with fondness at going to the park in my city in the early days of the game and hanging out with literally hundreds of strangers who would have been stuck inside otherwise. What was great was it built community-I ended up talking to a lot of interesting people. That’s why the whole “ban pokemon go from parks” thing really ticks me off. You should make a comic about that (maybe you already did? I don’t remember). Unfortunately, they bottled the… Read more »

Banning Pokemon Go from parks seems to defeat its purpose.
Honestly, Niantic should have waited another few months to help put on more polish. And yes, I’m aware they didn’t expect A SEVENTH OF THE PLANET to start playing simultaneously, and I feel that Niantic got way more punishment than it deserved because most people didn’t realize this.

You know, Pokemon Go would have been a success but Niantic was unable to prepare for launch because what they did was frankly unprecedented:
A free game which is like the actual game it’s from and it’s mobile that is based off of a sizable amount of the world’s childhood, that was also a Nintendo game.
If they had doubled their bandwith and waited another 2 weeks to release, it might have been wonderful.
Really. Might have.

Every so often I visit this page from my phone using chrome and I get a browser redirect within 3 seconds to some sort of Amazon scam that won’t allow me to navigate away, I have to force close the app and come back, only go get the same thing. Multiple tries will eventually cause the browser highjack to end.

I’m no web developer but perhaps you should double check your ad integration.
