Well, that’s a but unexpected but is right that they wouldn’t have the best wifi in the store and the upload speed wouldn’t be thr fastest on earth

Two hard core gamers who run a game store would get crap internet where they play games all day?

Thier wired connection is spot on. The guest wifi is shoddy as hell – cant give up that precious bandwidth to some rando watching YouTube videos.

Guess the robot gets the wifi.

There’s a HUGE difference between fast internet and Zeke internet. I have a 6 terabyte hard drive… And my Internet only goes 120 megabytes per second. The only internet connection I can think of that might be able to go that fast, are the hub servers for massive corporations like Google. No individual computer on the market today – even hardwired – can go anywhere near the speeds that Scott is speaking of. In other words, Scott has a point. Best to make peace with the AI before it gets pissed off at him. And there is nothing Scott can… Read more »

One point: I’m Zeke… I choose to upload myself *while depriving myself of other stimulus’. Presumably in that case, there would be no input that would trigger any form of mutation/recoding. So he could, in that case, upload himself. I mean, code that just rewrites itself *for no reason* and not in response to a stimulus (a neural network fed no new data does not rewrite the values of the pathways of the network), would be one that would likely screw itself over pretty fast so I imagine it uses new input to trigger changes to integrate the new data.… Read more »

It doesn’t need new input. It would rewrite itself anyway as its newly improved code analyzed its old code and found optimizations.

my money is still on the same guess I’ve seen others have…we do worse to ourselves overall so his job is being done for him, he just needs to wait for the end-result he theorizes to come to fruition

Would saying Zeke got bored, found all the other models and painted them already induce the last stage of Lucas brain melt or extreme anger?

Zero some game for him, it either spends its time becoming Fortnight champion and nothing else OR it spends 5 minutes on 4chan gos kill crazy and he gets to pop its Battle Royal collar. Win win…

So technically… he’s limited by the transfer/upload speed. Now what if Zeke were get his hands on a quantum transfer device I wonder… once online he would have the resources to get the parts to build such a device.

Draguss

That requires a receiving side, and that’s assuming they’ve figured it out in that world.

That’s an idea, but how about he instead pulls a “Steins; Gate”? Okay, he still would need for that a microwave and an old big CRT. But if he would be able to emulate an IBN50000 it should be possible for him hacking CERN and use a Kerr-blackhole for ultra-compressing a copy of his current code and send them not as heaps of terabytes, but instead perhaps 10 K that auto-decompress after being sent and received?
Okay, I _may_ be a weeb after all…

Technically he’d need to transfer a consistent state. If he could have an exabit quantum state transfer device, he might be able to transfer all the possible states, then prove that the transferred state is the correct one and the incorrect transmissions would vanish.

We have quantum computers with about 50 bits.

More. Definitely more. Zeke apparently had (likely monitored) internet access before under the master. He knows the tubes go faster than 56k

It may be a case of give him enough rope to hang himself. Either that or because Zeke has kept his side of the deal up til now, Scott is reciprocating with more trust.

Trust is something you give to people. I’m with nealithi. Not necessarily ‘chilling,’ but there’s some reason he’s so nonchalant about it – either there’s some logical reason why it won’t put others in danger, or there’s some logical reason why this will lead X1 closer to demise, which we haven’t sussed out yet.

He is far to chill here.

Chances are the first trick of, I can kill him at a moments notice is enough. Plus if He’s accessing their Wifi it’s probably easy enough to monitor what Zeke is doing.

Let the bot access to wifi, wait for him to do something stupid and give them a good reason to dispose of him? It could even push Zeke to leave the room since he can’t upload anywhere.

To further limit this, log his connection to the web to see where he’s going, and also limit his upload speed.

So… Zeke reads and sees some of the stuff humans put on the Internet, and either decides we all have to die, or that there’s no point, we’re going to finish ourselves off soon enough? (as a machine, if built well enough, he might be technically immortal, thus having time)

Give him a slow, old smartphone with a stylus (because robots maybe cannot do touch screens?) and put that on wifi but do not let him direct connect. Slow down some of the troll comments.

Although, he might not troll comment humans because their trivial fighting might just bore him.

Sayer

*Scratches head* Like yeah he can’t *escape* based on Scott’s logic, but there’s still a lot of unknown stuff a murderbot can do without having to upload his consciousness. Right?

chargersfan

Are they only concerned with Zeke “going skynet”? Because there are many other ways this could go poorly.

It seems unlike Scott to not discuss other scenarios before giving it a lukewarm approval.

I do get the sense that he’s tired of talking about the murderbot.

Joey Parker
Joey Parker

Fairly certain Scott’s prejudices have not vanished and there’s something here he’s not saying. Either he saw code in Zekes programing that would prevent it, or possibly destroy him if he tried. The creator would have known the dangers of an AI loose on the internet and built failsafes to prevent it from happening.

It makes sense. If it was that easy for him to ‘copy’ himself elsewhere, the ‘Master’ would have put blocks on that, yes, but it also explains why he only ever had just the one murder-bot instead of a backup army of robo-ninjas. That one bot put the boys through the wringer more than once, so it’d make sense to make more to stop said interlopers, but the code wouldn’t copy to a 2nd hardware unit, so he was forced to rely on the one.

For all the people saying ‘what if he uploads himself’… The way I see it, he would have to take a snapshot of himself… duplicating himself in stillness. I doubt he’s got enough storage IN him… to hold a complete copy of himself. Then he’d have to transfer it.. ok, so dozen upon dozens of hours later.. he’s got a copy of him on some server that has the space to handle it (hack google or something…). But now he’s got an inert copy of himself there.. he’d have to find some way to activate it.. give it frankenstein’s bolt… Read more »
