If I had to guess, he probably decided he’d rather have new pants than go back to the ninja outfit his weeb not-master dressed him in.

Crypto isn’t money but a company may accept crypto of their own volition, in which case it’s more akin to bartering.
Mining isn’t always super costly. And yes, you can easily buy things with crypto, many sites trade gift cards for it.
