I see only an octopus with a tiny mouth in the middle of his face.

It’s 4…3 probably said to himself “I know where this is heading.”

Only tangentially related, but an octopus’s mouth should be between his tentacles, not just below his eyes. If it was biologically correct that is. It’s a comic, I don’t really care. I just wanted to point that out.

The line in the comic is likely intended to be a ridge for the forward-most tentacle, rather than a cute little 🙁 face

It needs a mouth to have a chin to wear this hat. Problem solved.

I often get that ‘nevermind’ energy at work.

Well, 1 is potentially playing an rpg. 4 appears to be doing some kind of roleplay. I’m going to assume 2 is reading one of those choose-your-adventures book and claim they’re all doing some kind of rpg session at least.

OK, well at least one of them has a legitimate excuse. It’s hard to find a babysitter last minute.

“Mom, can we get a Cthulhu?!”

“No, honey, you have a Cthulhu at home.”

— 4’s mother, probably.

You can still bring the pet to the session and pretend they’re a Druid in wild shape all the time

Every pet who joins out sessions is a cat who walks over the board and risks ruining valuable tile positions. As you might have guessed, they’re never invited.

It took until today for the title to click for me. Made me chuckle.

Is it a Lovecraft reference, or just a pun, because I don’t get it

It’s a play on the word Ennui, phonetically spelt

It’s a play on “ennui”, which pronounced how it is spelt in the comic title.

Ennui is pronounced änˈwē

Ah’nwee is the phonetic spelling of Ennui which is a feeling of boredom and emptyness. Generally feeling ennui means you’re probably looking to change things up.

Its essentially saying players 1,2 and 4 are bored of the campaign. And if not handled correctly, can end it.

I don’t care how low energy I get. There is always energy for D&D. Not promising I won’t fall asleep at the table though….

For once I see player 4 doing something normal. And as much as its played for laughs here, I would say its 100% normal outside of the fact that she is shown to be a little older than one would think. However, I’m all in for a player 4 tea party arc

Are you assuming that’s a stuffed animal, then? Because I assumed it was a live octopus.

I think she looks old to you because of her bags under the eyes; but she always had those

I doubt any of them have an age per se, they are immortal avatars of game players.

I believe Salty meant that they’d expect a child to hold a stuffed animal tea party, not a young adult.

Can’t decide if that’s just a crease on its head or if the octopus just isn’t a fan of its new hat… I think you look lovely and rock the look, be confident in yourself large Cephalopoda.

The Campaign: The Curse of the backtick instead of an apostrophe in the title 😉

(Yes, I know, pedantic)

Doesn’t look like a backtick (`) to me, looks like a Windows “smart” apostrophe (’).

Sad… but face it, they were jerks in your campaign. You’re better off looking for a new group, and hopefully you won’t have to use a DMPC to keep it together.
