It’s a refreshing sports drink of the future. The advertisement tagline is, “SUNSPIT! PUT IT IN YOUR MOUTH!”

The galatic version of an F-bomb. The fact the starcaster is spitting out solar energy just makes it a pun.

A part of me wishes he’d done some damage to the ship after all the effort he went to to repair it!

While it may look like a “near-miss”, keep in mind this is space and chances are that beam was extremely far away and simply gargantuan.

True but that adds the question, how hard must it have been for the Dranlexx leader to aim the arcing attack he used last issue? those ships would have been quite small to his eyes, even assuming he has guidance systems in his helm helping aim it would be hard to aim that.

Probably not as hard as bullseying womp rats with a T-16 😀

Gargantuan beams don’t need extremely precise aim. Adjust by a beam diameter and you got it.

Actually, it was a “near-hit”. If they nearly missed, they would have hit.

Given this article, Andrew is still correct. A near miss is a “miss that was near enough to still cause damage”. The Aphelion appears to have evaded unscathed, not fulfilling the requirement of “still causing damage” of a near miss.

So it’s still a near hit 🙂

Even the FAA and air traffic control uses the term ‘near-miss’

IIRC it’s shorthand for “Nearly Missed Getting Hit.”

The question is though… is that coming FROM the rock or TO the rock…

Curiosity question. The pilot (Speck?) has acid touch. How does he interact with the ships controls?

He’s in his exosuit thing that’s specially designed to be resistant to his acid touch

The middle panel shows he’s got gloves on.

His exosuit and gloves are made of a metal called nivium (IIRC) that cannot be melted by his “muck”.

From what I observe, he seems to control the mechanical arms of his suit with hand motions.

I love the trope of these hard nailed mercs and outlaws having such PG friendly phrases when things go wrong, then again Speck and his hug of doom seems to just compliment it. As an aside.. am i the only one that struggles with the navigation buttons only navigating that particular comic? whenever it changes from one to the next I find it’s a pain trying to see what was done previously without having to check them all individually, could we get a ‘previous posted page’ button / navigation? so if the last page i saw was analog and Dpad,… Read more »

If you click the Archive button, and then change the drop-down to “All”, you can then navigate day by day regardless of the storyline type.

Words change meaning over time and space. For all we know, “sunspit” might be a gosh darn folking downright horrifying curseword.

How many here really like the look of this ship?
I mean this is cool. The wing sections all look like they fold up. Central engines for easier balance. And the cockpit on top looks functional. And all in lines I can’t put my finger on why it looks so good.

It’s a freighter. They’re not supposed to look fancy, they’re supposed to be straightforward. But it’s a freighter *in spaaaaaaace* so it gets to look cool anyway 😀

I get just as excited seeing a new Starcaster “page one” as I get when a streaming service drops a new season of a show I like.

imagine driving all the way to some place in the boonies to pick up your friends and you get obliterated right before getting there, without anybody noticing it

I like how the ship is able to detect, analyse and evade something that likely moves at or very near to lightspeed. Yeah, yeah, I know, it has a Handwavium-based sensor array.
