(I think Lance Major here will just boop her a few dozen meters away with a shield of pure energy or incinerate the firearm, but she’d be well within her rights to just obliterate her right here. The Federation does *not* need Nyrah.
Not like La’ni took Cort very far. She needed to let him know she has her starcaster pointed at his face in case he got ideas of using his, and it’s a bit hard to talk when moving at high speed.
First time you see the man and you proceed to immediately grab his face? I swear, the blatant disregard for personal space is really not winning her any points here. Somebody gotta teach miss major here how to properly play hard to get.

anyone else noticed that her caster is on her sleeve?
Could be a special protective cover just covering both starcaster and sleeve? (Thus starcaster still right against the skin.) Or something not protective, but just more fashionable than what would look like an ugly lump hidden under her sleeve.)

While I doubt that gun could kill her, it would probably hurt, a lot, and she knows getting shot in the head would mean likely dropping the unidentified person with a Starcaster, which *would* kill her. Nyrah has effectively put her into checkmate. Either she concedes and lets him go, or she doesn’t, gets shot, drops him and he is free, or turns her attention to Nyrah which gives the other Starcaster user the chance to attack. Every outcome results in a loss. Bravo Nyrah, well played. I’m just hoping the view peers down to show Spek also present, ready… Read more »
I mean, imperviousness no, but apparently the starcaster has INSANE regeneration abilities. I mean, if it can keep their hand more or less intact while they’re channeling a freaking star through their palm (and also the hand being exposed to naked space), it’s not unreasonable for us to think that maybe it can be regenerating her skull and brain while the bullet is still in-flight 😛
Now that you mention it, didn’t the Delgrax guy have on a spacesuit when he went outside to fire his? Why is she able to fly around without any form of protection but he needed a suit to be out for just a few moments?
Plenty of possible explanations why he used one and she didn’t. A – Different physiology. Lani species might be better suited to space environments than the Dranglaex. B – La’ni might just be more physically capable C – La’ni might be better trained in general C – Starcaster functionality, maybe they each work a bit different? D – Technique, maybe La’ni knows how to use the Starcaster (healing, presumably?) to endure space better than Dranlaex guy. (I could imagine Team Genocide to be more interested in destructive applications over healing. E – La’ni was just flying around and could use… Read more »
What degree of regeneration does the Starcaster grant exactly? We saw what it did with Cort, and Nyrah said it would heal his arm before he could get to the bone trying to cut it off. So, what is the upper limit of healing? If say a Starcaster user was shot in the head, would it be able to heal them, or does it go inert the moment there is no pulse? Because if all it takes to turn off a Starcaster is for the heart to stop, that would make electricity EXTREMELY dangerous to any Starcaster user. Going with… Read more »
I’m pretty sure that a starcaster that can level continents or terraform a planet has a much more sophisticated method of detecting when someone is still alive. We see it has a great understanding of the anatomy to heal it correctly. A simple stopping of the heart should be easy to fix and not seen as dead. An exploded brain would count very much to the dead category. We do not know the limits of healing until demonstrated or talked about. Tim is doing well in not committing to this yet, allowing him creative freedom until needed. He could also… Read more »
Nyrah’s brother had a Starcaster, it’s possible she has some idea about its limits, including the (lack of) imperviousness of a Starcaster’s user.
(meaning, that she could know shooting Lani in the head would work)
I feel like the starcaster itself isn’t really doing much in the way of deciding how the healing works. I feel like it simply accelerates the natural regeneration of tissue, so unless you have regeneration of lost limbs as an ability your race has I think any dismemberments are permanent.
Of course this is all subject to Tim’s discretion.

Best answer: Throw Cort at Nyrah, incinerate them both. Rogue Starcaster and threat both neutralized.
If Lani’s reflexes are good enough for that, considering Nyrah has the gun against her head, and probably finger on a trigger. (I don’t think we have seen anything implying, that starcaster gives someone superhuman, err, superalien 😉 reflexes)

She swoops in, immediately asserts control over the situation but doesn’t immediately act in a particularly violent manner (she’s detected a Starcaster user of non-Federation alignment who she either doesn’t recognize or recognizes as a known criminal, so honestly, her actions are pretty reasonable).
She’s probably going to become his mentor.

I expected she would be introduced to Cort at some point, but that’s moot at this point. Now comes the fast talking and explanations etc… Quel might have some weight to their words as well.
Super-fast healing can only do so much, I’m sure there’s a less time consuming way to remove his arm than using a sharp knife, a simple guillotine type of deal where it’s a fast slice. It would block the ‘caster from rejoining the ends as well. Just very painful and I doubt they have the materials handy. Plus he’d bleed out pretty fast as well.

Huh. I’m wondering if she is going to recognize Nyrah (or at least her race), and thereby realize they aren’t with the Dranglaex.
Dranglaex seem to be REALLY xenophobic (to an “let’s kill everyone who isn’t us” extent), so I think a non-Dranglaex with a Starcaster makes it pretty obvious (as they wouldn’t give one to any other species).
Bye Nyrah!
(I think Lance Major here will just boop her a few dozen meters away with a shield of pure energy or incinerate the firearm, but she’d be well within her rights to just obliterate her right here. The Federation does *not* need Nyrah.
But killing is wrong! Because if you kill them, you can’t use them as leverage later!
?
How did Nyrah get there so fast?
Clearly she took a dash action so its unlikely she has another action left to fire a rifle.
ACTION SURGE
I feel like such a nerd that I understand that now.
Does that mean this is merely talking as a free action, but no actual intimidation check?
Not like La’ni took Cort very far. She needed to let him know she has her starcaster pointed at his face in case he got ideas of using his, and it’s a bit hard to talk when moving at high speed.
she has her new gift from speck, her mechanical legs might come with rocket boosters
Pretty sure she just got a new arm.

Was it mentioned somewhere that Starcasters must maintain contact with the skin?
The Major appears to be wearing a Federation uniform, you can make a good comparison in this comic: https://cad-comic.com/comic/the-starcaster-chronicles-11-09/
The uniforms appear to have long sleeves on both sides, so it’s reasonable to assume that yes, she’s wearing it on her sleeve… but is that an issue?
Not an issue unless you like changing clothes.
The starcaster is supposedly bonded to the flesh and cannot be removed.
The sleeve goes up to the cuff of the starcaster, not under it.
And the same colour as Cort’s shirt.
Cort’s starcaster is space grey. She must have one of the newer ones that were available in Sienna.
“Dodge this”
<XCOM PTSD>
TECHnically, Cort in not suspended above the ground, and so cannot be “dropped”
Maybe she’s using the slang for “Kill him”. It would be more feasible at this point, right?
Very poor choice of words!

Pretty sure a gunshot to the head is very likely to kill anyone.
That depends on what level of imperviousness you decided to give the starcaster carriers 😉
None. Starcasters afford zero imperviousness.
I mean, imperviousness no, but apparently the starcaster has INSANE regeneration abilities. The Dranglaex aren’t above employing other speceis, though.
They only have one caster, and I seriously doubt they would give any member of a subject race something so powerful.
If she can hurt him with the gun why wouldn’t she and just take the Starcaster?
Who is “She” and “He” in this sentence? Are you asking why Nyrah doesn’t murder someone in cold blood and steal the Starcaster?
