E3 Extravaganza, continued

May 23, 2005 by Tim

I finally got the pictures from E3 up. You can find them here. Beware, there are a lot of images. May take a while on dial-up connections.

I also wanted to touch on a couple of more games I played.

F.E.A.R.: At first it seemed like just a standard shooter. Pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. Until a Microsoft representative came over and told me to press the CTRL button, which puts you into Max-Payne style “bullet-time”, which added a whole new level to an already good looking game. Was pretty brutal to point blank someone with a shotgun in slow-motion.

Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows: Brian and I played this on co-op. It was pretty fun, and I spent the whole time just picking guys up and hurling them into various environmental traps, as soon as I learned how. My only gripe would be that the graphics were pretty pixelated, and your heroes didn’t look very different from the waves of enemies on-screen. If you took your eyes off where you were, you could lose yourself. Hopefully they bump up the graphics a bit. Then again, we were playing the Playstation build, so it probably looks better on the Xbox.

Burnout Revenge: What can I say? It’s Burnout. It’s faster, it’s more destructive, and it’s got a whole mode where the goal is to destroy oncoming traffic. No more need to dodge cars. Just plow right through them!

We <3 Katamari: Better graphics and more shit to pick up.

Soul Calibur 3: Actually plays better than the last one, if you can believe that. Crisp graphics, cool characters and moves, and better controls.

Age of Conan: I mocked it, but that was before I learned how bloody and gruesome they planned to make it. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
