Ghosts of gaming past

December 22, 2006 by Tim

Last week the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list was updated, and it included (finally) one of the only two games I was waiting for to become playable on my 360: Psychonauts (the other being The Warriors).

If you’ve never played Psychonauts, you need to. In my opinion it’s one of the most brilliant, under-appreciated, humorous and enjoyable games released on the Xbox. Actually, released in the last few years.

I got it when it came out, but I never got to finish it, because my copy got scratched all to hell. I’ve been waiting for it to hit the 360’s compatibility list as a reason to buy the game again. I’ve been playing it over the last few days, and it’s just as wonderful as I remember it.

I got mine for $20. You can probably find it to order online, or check your local EBGames/Gamestop. It’s worth it if you can track it down.

Aside from that, I’ve been catching up on some other games that we got flooded with during October/November. I’ve scratched Gears of War off the list, having completed the game in co-op on normal, hard and insane. I’m working on Rainbow Six Vegas’ single player at the moment, which I’m finally interested in now, having gotten past the boring Mexico levels.

My next huge anticipation game right now is Crackdown. Not released until February 20th, but we’ll have the demo on XBL come January 18th. The more screenshots and videos I see of this game, the more impressed I am. It didn’t look like much the very first time I saw it, but its come a long way.

The co-op mode should be ridiculously fun.

Anyway, it’s Christmas time ’round here. I’ll be heading home for the holidays. However be sure to check in on Monday, as I’ll have a really nifty Christmas present here for you. I think you’ll enjoy it.
