Murder All Bugs

Thank you for the well-wished for Simon. He’s been doing pretty well over the last few days, adapting to his medications. He’s getting lots of attention, which he loves.

Many moons ago, Brian told me about Earth Defense Force 2017 and how much fun it was. I watched a couple of trailers and decided that I would just take his word for it. As much as mindlessly destroying, exploding, and dismembering an onslaught of giant killer insects sounded fantastic, there are already too many great games that I don’t get enough time to play. A rough port of an old PS2 game wasn’t exactly topping my interest meter.

Fortunately, the folks at Vicious Cycle decided to bring Earth Defense Force into the current gen with Insect Armageddon. And while it still isn’t what you might consider a AAA title, and you can find better graphics elsewhere, Brian was right. This shit is fun.

Not only is it fun, it’s fun that you can have with up to two buddies in 3-player co-op throughout the entire game. I’m waiting for my friends to receive their copies before I really get into the game, so I can’t tell you too much about it. Though to be honest, I don’t think you really need me to review the game for you. It’s about killing bugs the size of buildings with hundreds of awesome weapons… and killing the buildings too. That’s pretty much it. And now, it’s got pretty decent graphics to boot. There are no longer any arguments you can make against playing this game.

Moving along… I really don’t like Uncharted multiplayer. There, I said it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Uncharted, and the series sits high (if not at the top) on my list of favorite games of all time. I’m dying to get my hands on Uncharted 3. But I didn’t enjoy the multiplayer in Uncharted 2, and the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 3 isn’t changing that opinion. It’s not even that it’s bad, and I want to like it, but something about it just feels off. It feels like the sort of multiplayer I’ve played in other games, but other games did it better. Perhaps because those other games were built around the run-and-gun style of gameplay, and while Uncharted has that, it doesn’t have that at the level required for competitive gameplay. It works in the story mode, it doesn’t work agains people. For me, anyway.
