Tim pointed out some time ago that what they play is not exactly dnd both for legal and storyline reasons. So they play a game like dnd, but rules are deliberately unclear and may be different (like, the spell is called Feather Fall in Dnd, while Slow Fall is a monk’s class feature, so Slow Fall spell is not necessarily a reaction)
There is no legal reason, just creative/personal ones. The players don’t play DnD (or any other strict ruleset) because I don’t want to spend all of my time dealing with rules lawyers in the comments, pointing out this errata, or that module, or how they might have played a rule differently, etc.
Therefore, they play “Fantasy Tabletop RPG- Not Sold In Stores Edition” because I pull from a variety of experiences across different rulesets and the story is king here; not the rules. The closest you could say is that they play a homebrew version of Pathfinder 1e/2e.
So what you’re saying is you didn’t pick a version, so people wouldn’t comment the exact thing that was commented? There really is no winning on the internet.
There are some restrictions on DnD content, especially if you gonna make money out of it. They are quite reasonable though and essentially boil down to not using specific characters (owned by WoC) and like.
It’s Pathfinder. The Campaign: Characters comic, one of the December 2012 ones. He shows a brief look at the character sheet, and it’s a very distinct design, with part of the name there. So, edition 3.75 as we like to nickname it.
Had a player die in a game I was in due to similar circumstances. He knew the wizard knew Feather Fall and so he jumped down a pit to fetch something we needed.
Unfortunately he neglected to ask whether the wizard had *prepared* Feather Fall that morning before he jumped.
Playing 3.5E Eberron, I was a mix of an Elven Swashbuckler & Swirling Dervish, a heavily DEX optimized build with spoodles of acrobatic/jumping/climbing, etc. We had to do some hop-hop-hop between stone tablets floating over lava. I failed on 3 or less on a D20 and I could reroll anything but a 1. I felt pretty secure and I was going to backup our point man because we try to not leave the point man all by himself to deal with threats. Oh, and we had action points so really, I could AP my way so that the ONLY failure… Read more »
The way things are going, the arrow would probably hit and finish him.

He. In a DnD game, one of my fellow adventurer failed her athletics check when jumping from a really tall roof to a flying boat in which we were scaping from a forged golem.
Luckily for her I had Levitate ready and could save her from falling
Interesting how you only mention that you ‘could’ save her, but not that you actually did. After all, #2 did also have Slow Fall prepared and could save #3 with it…
True, but yes I saved her first with Levitation and then with mage hand to move her to the boat (this was allowed by de DM, her character was heavier than a wizard hand can charge, but if she was floating it was considered a grav 0 situation)
Slow fall is a reaction that triggers when someone starts to fall, so #2 could still have cast it. Assuming, of course d&d 5e

The vagueness allows for CYA in a creative sense. It’s just a better idea for everyone’s sake.
Its funnier if its a double screw up.
I am curious why legal, I hear many podcasters and have seen many D&D comics … online does not say anything about not doing it

At least this way Tim always has a 0-mana canned response prepared.
“Rebuke: Justification” is a free action, and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Cantripped response.
i say if youre more concerned with being a rules lawyer than enjoying the story, you need to find some other entertainment media
And now I want to buy “Fantasy Tabletop RPG Not sold In Stores Edition”!!
Damn you, Tim!! 😉

The game is, for instance, called something completely different. It’s “Dungeons & Calvinball.”
it could of been a ‘oh yeah.. thats on my spell list. That could of been usefull.. a few minutes ago. Well RIP’.
Done that a few times.
I believe I’ve found your mistake.
Not my only one, as the dnd spell is (as someone else pointed out) featherfall, not slow fall!

Hey, Three, no need to fall out like that…
Nice one. Now get out.

Yet it’s your fault he fell in the first place…..
Sorta, the other choice was to not attempt to help him.
Maybe they could use an arrow with rope to harpoon haul him up?
