A DM I once played with had us roll in a similar situation because the player was trying to catch an object in the dark like this. So it was a dex DC I think to see if it was caught (it wasn’t), and then the DM did some sort of 50/50 roll to see if it landed on the ground or off a cliff we were near.
Actual session from the 90’s. Party is guarding a supply caravan from attack.
Me – I fire my crossbow at the bandit leader! *roll*
DM – A caravan horse drops.
Oh god, you just reminded me of a friends character. Half pint. Was a militia man who while gaming decided he would start doing archery (Built for Melee). A couple games later he are traveling on horse back and see some bandits. Half pint draws his short bow and lets loose…. right into the back of his horses head…
and i bet after they get the cleric out and to a healer, they find a list of what loot there was in the clerics bag from when he was writing down what was there, and there will be things like staff of major healing, ring of levitation, amulet of super strength, elixer of new life. you know, all items they could have used to save him a lot easier and with minimal effort
Or it will cost all the treasure they gathered to heal/revive him (the latter, if the setting has resurrection magic).

The DM’s really going the extra mile as the player DM. Not only is he stopping himself from helping the players save his character, he also has to watch as they quite possibly kill him themselves.

Wait, this team only has one player that even knows BASIC healing? That’s just bad, for this exact reason. Granted one dedicated healer for a group of four is reasonable, but for none of the others to have any clue what to do?
If either of the others knew anything 3 would have just told 2 he should ask the others, but he didn’t….so…yeah this is bad…
Wait, I’m being stupid, can’t they just kill him and then take his body to get revived? They are bound to have a diamond in among all the loot.
What makes you think they don’t? Sure blue doesn’t know squat, fits both characters really and hes asking the dedicated healer. With red actually telling him to do a heal check and green actually carrying a med kit among her traps shows she has some knowledge with it (Treating herself)

This is legit making me want to find a TTRPG group to play with.
With a good group they can be a lot of run, unfortunately it also works the other way.

This reminds me of the super soccer goalie video….. You know, the one who blocks all the shots while he was already KO’d? I think they did it with volleyball too.
Annnnd there goes 1 failed death save. Could be 2 if it crit but since that was not a melee attack it wasn’t a guaranteed critical. Things are not looking good for Tobyn.
On the other hand this looks like pretty standard fare for a TTRPG group. Stumbling from one blunder to F-Up to catastrophe while on the edge of dyeing.

Sounds like a typical D&D campaign so far.
How badly will Blue injure himself fail-rolling First Aid?

Why it’s always nice to have a 2nd minor healer in the group: bard, paladin, druid
What roll do you even fumble to get something to accidentally hit one immobile person in the head? Did … did 4 roll an attack roll?
I would guess, One rolled a one in case of the roll for catching the back. Like Two rolled the one when he accidentally hit Three with the stuff.
This, plus the DM’s narrative prerogative.

Off the cliff then?
correction, off the cliff and onto the head of a dragon taking a nap at the bottom

there was a game you could do this in and i found it morbidly hilarious and irresistable
I think I remember that, but not which game. Anyone know? Mount & Blade maybe?
Gotta admit, Four is a really good huntress – she’s just bagged another one
I am going to shatter you like glass for that….. >:(
If there is a low-hanging fruit somewhere in my general vicinity – you can’t possibly expect me to resist that kind of temptation 😉
You know you should be asleep when you laugh out loud to a pun like this…
the best puns are the ones you dont need to wordplay with
Considering it was Three’s character I guess it would be fair to say Four actually bagged Three in one go.
My first session as DM, the party tried to wake up an unconscious goblin with water from their water skins.
Medicine check, natural 1
Waterboarded the poor sucker instead
Did they find out accidentally where the Goblin King had bought a mansion?
I wonder if the traps are going to go off as he tries to get the bandages out of the bag?
So I gather in the end they’ll get no loot, because Groff would be busy with the hardly alive cleric

You mean the legendary Scott Sterling?

Legendary!

I would like to know why now has a k in panel 4.
It’s phrased a bit awkwardly, but she’s saying that the traps have knowledge that without the bandages, she’d be defenseless against their stabbing.
I know now what my foot tastes like…Again
Just shove a healing potion down his gullet.
WIS check: 1 – should have removed the bottle before shoving
(Picture: Visible bottle in the middle of the throat, label “healing potion” on a thread still sticks out of the mouth)
Truly authentic DnD, it’s not enemies that kill a player, but a very unfortunate string of nat 1s
Props to 3 for separating his DM duties from his character. I’m don’t see many DMs handle this very well.
